Aladdin Lamp Lox-On Chimney
I have not found the Aladdin R103 Lox-On chimney overly delicate but I do suggest that you check the securing ring (around the burner assembly) before you attempt to set-and-lock the chimney down.This Lox-On chimney is not for the more recently sold Aladdin Lamps as they have gone to a 'heel-less' design in which the chimney 'seats' inside of metal 'fingers' around the burner assembly.With the Lox-On chimney there are some slight 'bumps' in the glass at the base of the chimney which are captured under ridges around the periphery of the securing ring (around the burner assembly) when the chimney is rotated about 30 degrees. I once had an instance where a long unused burner caused a problem when securing the Lox-On chimney due to the securing ridges (around the burner) not quite providing the clearance that was needed. The securing ridges should only provide a snug enough fit for the chimney (when it is rotated) to keep it from moving - it should not be tight as the chimney gets very hot during lamp operation and a bit of room for expansion must be allowed for. The securing ridges are of lightweight metal so making slight adjustments is easily accomplished.Be very aware that you are dealing with a thin glass structure when handling and fitting the chimney. Insert the chimney gently into the securing ridges (around the burner) and turn it very delicately. If it won't turn that look closely at what is happening and you will probably find that the securing ridges are not providing the needed clearance. Do not try to force the chimney when locking or it will break in your hands.
