Will it be useful?
Well I already have a similar one which is years old, it belonged to my mother who found it very useful and a decorator who has just painted my ceiling also used it when he got to the edge by the wall. If pushed up against where wall meets ceiling, the edge of the ceiling can be painted without damaging the wallpaper. So I know for certain it will be useful and as I have one I plan to pass this one to the decorator who did such a good job using mine.

Not the best tool I have tried
This is not sturdy enough, you really do have to hold it tight to the wall, to get a straight line and not mess it up. I did a few times, not my favourite.

Not great, metal probably better
Bought this as I had just painted kitchen ceiling and was moving onto walls, didn't want to use masking tape on fresh paint so thought i would try this. It's not the longest which I wanted (I bought it as I thought it would be more manageable to keep level), it's fine in that regards but as it is plastic it has quite a bit of flex in it so paint can seep through. Only tried it on a tiny section and decided not to continue (white ceiling, navy blue walls).I am sure the metal ones would be better but cannot recommend this one.

AMAZING GADGET
I bought the paint shield thinking well if it doesn't help it wasn't expensive, but wow what a excellent peace of kit, it works and works well, it has saved me so much time and all my edges look perfect, would definitely recommend.

Great little tool
Really good inexpensive product. We used it so my wife could do the edges when painting a white wall cotton white and getting a good edge against the ceiling. I just do it freehand, but she can't and this is a good solution. The edge that you can get is good, and especially how we used it for white on nearly white as a perfect edge is not important. However, if you are doing a coloured edge to the ceiling, I think a skilled freehand painter will do a better job. The issue is not with the tool, but with the walls/ceiling. We were painting brand new plaster walls in an extension, but the edge was not quite straight enough for this shield to be be flush (i.e. the ceiling is a bit wonky). That will limit what you can achieve, but for skirting and other uses it will be great.

Fairly useless for me, but if you get it cheap you might want to give it a try.
It sounded like a good idea, practical. In reality I found it useless. Paint smeared and leaked at the long edge. But I'm an occasional amateur. If you are more expert than me, then maybe you could use it better. I took a chance buying it, and it was cheap enough to take a chance on. But I'll never use it again.
