What you can achieve with Greg's book: Beginning MERN Stack ...
I had had the app idea in my head for a while, this had transitioned to a plan on a whiteboard; I could do the front-end work: html, css and JavaScript through undertaking online learning courses; sections of my app were working (after a fashion) with all the data in local storage.I had enquired about getting the app data in to a database and deployed through a third party, but this would have cost tens of thousands, and without the ability, I wouldn't have had control or have been able to deal with problems. I went through literally dozens of YouTube videos painstakingly stopping the film and copying the exercise but some videos were old and out of date; others didn't explain enough. This avenue failed me.That's when I turned to Amazon and found Greg's book. I went through the exercises over a couple of days; they were perfect. Just the right amount of explanation to understand the reasoning then a (just challengingly enough) step-by-step process with new code highlighted bold. After a second run the lessons had sunk in enough that I was able then to transpose much of my exercise learning to the web side of my own app. Now my app is hosted on it's own localhost server, data is being sent to MongoDB/AWS based user accounts, and when ready, deployment looks simple enough. I am a Product Design Engineer, not a programmer, before October 2020 I had never done any front-end work; at that time back-end looked totally unfathomable. With some basic JavaScript under my belt, Greg's book, and a good dose of persistence, NodeJS back-end transformed from a mystery to accessible charted territory. Now, I eagerly await Greg's (hopefully) next book on how to connect an android based app to the server and data in MongoDB.

Fantastic!
I have to say, it's fantastic!. The book covers some complicated stuff but the way it's broken down and explained is brilliant.

Straightforward
Instructions in the book are straightforward but I was looking for more as a beginner nevertheless I like it how it teaches us to use node js

Teaches nothing
This book simply shows the code to create an app using the movie sample data from MongoDB. If you want to be able to create your own apps using the MERN stack then this book is not for you.

A Very Good Introduction to React
A well laid out book that is easy to follow and understand with a author that is always on hand to advise. This book will not make you a React master but then no book will. This book is a very good introduction to the React library. Enjoy!
