Cable Matters Active DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (Active DP to DVI Adapter) with Eyefinity Technology Support

After going through three different cables doing Diplay->DVI and HDMI->DVI. I was finally convinced I needed an Active Display->DVI. It did the trick!In Windows my monitor would stay on if it was the only one powered on. But otherwise it would hang the system with two going at the same time. Linux handled them just fine so I thought it was a driver issue. Turns out Windows just needed a more consistent signal that it could trust to relay the it from the graphics card to the monitor. Who knew?!

Please excuse the long "winded" review and the simplicity of it. I didn't fully understand my needs when looking for this product so I am hoping to help other who are having the same problem as I was.I have a HP Envy h8-1534 that has the Eyefinity Radeon HD 7570 graphics card, A GREAT card by itself, but that's for another review :)The Eyefinity Radeon HD 7570 graphics card comes with 2gb memory and 3 ports - 1 each of DVI, HDMI, Display Port.I wanted to be able to use 3 monitors (1 - Dell S2340M (VGA/DVI ports), 2 - Acer AL2016W's (VGA/DVI ports)I am doing web design work, graphics, video editing, browsing, chatting, video conferencing, etc.and generally have 6-8 applications open at the same time plus a browser with multiple tabs, Outlook email, Notepad. So 3 monitors helps me a great deal with managing my "desktop space".This product, the "Cable Matters Gold Plated Active DisplayPort to DVI Male to Female Adapter", allowed me to just do that right out of the box, no drivers, no installs, just plug it in and go. Now the Eyefinity Radeon HD 7570 graphics card can work at it's full capacity without "taxing" the rest of the system. With this adapter I was able to use a DVI to DVI cable for 1 monitor, HDMI to DVI for another monitor and this adapter ACTIVE display port to DVI for the 3rd monitor.For this card (and many others capable of multiple monitors) you must use an "Active (NOT Passive and if it doesn't say "ACTIVE" it's most likely not) Display Port Adapter" (if you need to adapt to DVI, VGA, HDMI monitors as I did) or you will only get 1 or 2 monitors to work.I used to use the "Asus Usb DVI Docking Station" and it worked fine as well, but it used a USB port (we all know how valuable they are) and took up physical desk space. Though it did allow me to have the 3 monitors.I gave this product 5 stars because it's construction feels solid, the ends seem to be attached and protected against "bending breakage", it's ease of use and it just "looks good" and helped me reduce the number of wires, plugs and desk space needed to do what I wanted.I hope I have help with "my experience", if you need one of these I am sure you will be happy and satisfied.

I have a KVM Extender over fiber that the specs say requires DP v1.2 output to a Display port monitor. I have a DVI input touchscreen. I called the KVM manufacturer and they said it really needs a DP v1.4 output with ++ to a display port monitor. They said maybe a MHT hub with a HDMI output may work but it had not been tested. Those are $169 and it was a "It might work". I took a chance on this adapter saying it was active. I have many Display Port to DVI adapters. One has a larger housing at the DVI connector than this one like it has a lot of electronics inside. None of those worked. This worked the first time and every time so far. I cannot be happier and the saving is immense. I had considered buying a new monitor and not using the expensive one that came with our new graphics computer. The picture is great. At first with everything side by side we thought we had it plugged into the PC instead of over fiber to the KVM receiver. This passes all the necessary data back and forth that the newer Display Port cards have. Without this adapter the fiber KVM extenders did not see a signal and would not pass video to a DVI monitor.

Got this because the DVI port on a GTX 1060 card that I put in my PC wasn't working and I wanted to use my Qnix which only has a DVI input.At first, I used my old DVI cable which is almost 10 years old now. I had intermittent green horizontal lines flashing on the screen which made it barely usable at times. I thought it was the adapter because that cable was working perfectly with my old GPU and the same Qnix 2710LED monitor. I thought maybe it just wasn't capable of 1440p and switched to 1080p, but I had the same issues.After buying a second adapter and STILL having the same issues, I smartened up and replaced the cable with a new Dual Link DVI cable. It's now working PERFECTLY at 1440p 60hz with my Qnix. No green lines, no artifacts.So summary: Even if your DVI cable was working with your old setup, you might need a new one.

I do not believe that adapter is an ACTIVE DVI-to DisplayPort converter. I connected it a monitor with a DisplayPort Input and with the other end of the DVI cable connected to the DVI video output of my PC. The monitor couldn't "see" the video output of the PC. It appears to be well-constructed, and I value other CableMatters products, However, I returned it because it won't work in my situation.
