Plug and play

The shipper brought out the new air-conditioner in about half the time we expected. Good thing, because Iowa summers can get hot and our Winnebego View was getting uncomfortable during the day.The trucker did a great job backing his semi down a narrow country lane and leaving the box just a few feet from the RV. My wife and daughter-in-law helped me lift the unit unto a dry-wall hoist. I could winch the dry-wall platform level with the roof and slide the unit on a rug over to the center of the RV.It was a good thing that I had watched a number of YouTube videos about how to make the swap because the printed manual that came with the unit was no use at all. The manual had about half the pages missing and stapled in backwards and upside down. It took a while to remove the old unit and clean up the roof. The old unit had leaked compressor oil all over the place but fortunately not into the RV. The old unit had also chaffed the roof a little so I touched that up with spray paint. My View has a strong fiberglass roof but I made sure I moved the units around on pieces of carpet. Yes the inside metal brackets have very sharp edges as I found out when I nicked one of my fingers. The cables were plug and play. Yes, make sure the power is off to the circuit before doing this. The manual didn't tell me where the thermal sensor had to got on the inside vanes so I just put it the same spot that it was in the old unit. I didn't trust that it would stay there just plugged in like that, so I added a drop of contact adhesive on connector to help keep it there. At the end of the day my son came home from work and helped me get the old unit off the roof which was a reverse of what it took to get the new unit up there. That evening was cool enough that we didn't need the cooling and I wanted the oil to settle before trying it out. The next day we started using it and it does a great job. The 13,500 BTU is sized just about right for our Class C View. Yesterday it got close to 100F on a high humidity day. On a day like that you can hear the corn in the nearby field growing. Even on a hot day, the unit keeps the inside of the RV comfortable. Today has been extra humid so the condensate is steadily dripping off the roof. We just run the fan side constantly on its lower setting. We don't hear the compressor cutting in or out. I'm not saying that everyone should swap out their own air-conditioners, but if you are doing most of the repairs on your RV anyway, this totally doable. Our previous unit lasted 10 years and hope the new one will do as well.

Replacing old dometic A/C unit

This A/C unit was a great replacement for our Dometic 13,500 btu. The transition was seamless using the conversion kit. Quieter than the dometic, more efficient ( to temp. faster),

STAY AWAY! Damaged unit that still worked, but now failed after 20 days of use

The unit arrived with the box seemingly in decent shape, with one crumpled edge, but I didn't think much of it. However as I was finishing up the install, working up inside the unit, I found a 12in x 4in metal plate was detached inside the air return cavity which at some point had damaged some of the fins on the intake coils. I don't know where this plate is supposed to actually be attached. I opened it up again and found where it was supposed to go. I didn't find this until late in the install process, and obviously I didn't really want to completely uninstall this beast to return it, and it was working once I got it all finished.Fast forward 20 days and it has stopped cooling completely. The compressor seems to be kicking on, but the air coming out is not cold. Unfortunately it took me about 10 days to get it up and installed so I'm just a few days outside my return window. What an utter nightmare. $1000 straight down the drain.A couple other things, that I could have lived with, had it still been working, but it's pretty darn loud. I was expecting pretty loud and it was louder than I expected. Most places we camp we would probably have used it to get the temp down and then open up the windows once it cools outside. Our trailer is a little 19 footer, so it's a small space and I'm sure that contributes to the noise level some.Another issue is that the description reads as follows:About this itemCool/Heat Capacity: 13,500Electric Heat Element Capacity: 5,600This understandably lead me to believe that the heating element was included with this unit. Further down in the description it does say "Add the optional Heater Assembly and you'll have 5,600 BTUHs of heat for cooler outings." but when I read that I thought that this was kind of a generic description and that with this item I was adding that optional unit. I made an assumption there, but I think it's also pretty obvious how that could be misinterpreted.I don't know if it was just a case of bad luck, but I won't be buying another of these from Amazon, I don't think. This might be one best purchased at an RV dealer, where they know how to handle them in shipping.

Excellent! Works great!!!!

Wonderful 2 day delivery! Easy to install! Saved me $3,500.00. I had 2 estimates to replace my air conditioner on my 2016 Jayco Greyhawk after it stopped working. Bought this unit and received it in 2 days and fit perfectly! My 2 estimates were 4000 to 5000 from to repair facilities. I bought this for $810.00. It took only 1 hour to install! Works great! Now I have cold air again! Thank you Coleman!!!! Great price and simple repair. The only issue is getting it on your roof of the rv. You would normally need 2 people to do so. Weighs about 75 lbs. I made a pulley system and it worked great! It's not loud like some people say. It's normal for an rv air conditioner!
