Purchased for use with a Yaesu FT-5DR. The stock Yaesu antenna is only matched to the 2m and 70cm band, where in the 2m band at best the VSWR is 2:1 in band. While the radio supports reception outside of these bands, the stock antenna might as well be a brick with >10:1 VSWR.The Diamond in 2m is 1.3:1 and in the 70cm band 1.15:1That said the different in loss is in reality only 0.5 dB, thus in the ham bands there is no practical difference.But if your intent is to use the radio for reception outside of the ham band, such as air band, clearly the Yaesu stock antenna is very poor and the Diamond is a good choice.Point in fact I decided to keep the Diamond antenna given the ability to receive in other bands (e.g. air band). But if it wasn't for this requirement, the stock antenna is really good enough and you will not detect a difference in performance.

The media could not be loaded. It is far superior to the rubber ducky antenna I got a lot more distance with it than I did with the rubber ducky. I have a BCD436HP scanner and I just got this on this past Saturday and this is what I use at home. I brought it with me to work today and it does a phenomenal job I have you would recommend this antenna as well worth the money. The connection works great it’s an SMA connection. I may even put on my FM stopper to see what it does do as well with it. I took it with me to work today and I work in Framingham Massachusetts and I was getting Boston Police Department from here with this antenna I couldn’t do it with the rubber ducky antenna. If you look on the purchases for your scanner, I would do it you’ll be very well pleased with it.

Quite the improvement over the stock TYT UV-8000E 'long' antenna which is about 1.5-2in shorter than this SRH77CA, I was getting terrible wacky SWR readings over 4.4+ on VHF with the stock antenna at 10 watts, with this antenna I'm getting a reading closer to 1.5 on VHF and 1.21 on UHF.Reception is a bit poor in comparison to the UV-8000E's stock antenna, but I have a feeling that the antenna was tuned for reception and not transmit and that's why it had such a bad SWR.It feels nice, the barrel is nice, long, thick, doesn't QUITE fill the antenna hole on my UV-8000E but it seems to screw down tight and flush.The antenna is very floppy and flexible, but bending it into a wide U tends to make it lean a bit unlike some other antennas that just snap right back, disappointing for my use since I wanted it to fit in my motorcycle bag without removing it again and again but I don't feel it would survive that too long without breaking.The price is high in comparison to the competition from Nagoya from a genuine dealer, and although I don't (yet) have a 771 to compare this to (and I'll amend when/if I do) I doubt its really worth the extra outlay of cash other than its 'easier' to find the male version of this antenna as opposed to a 771 that's actually from a reputable dealer here on Amazon.The antenna is of course way too big to have on your radio if you'll be wearing it, but I don't see why it wouldn't make a good antenna for a radio clipped to a backpack/pack/sling instead. I bought this antenna with the thought that I'd put it on this radio which I planned to keep at home or in my vehicle and not as my 'carry' radio but have realized that actual 'carry' radio duty is a bit more useful so this is just sort of fancy and 'because I can' I guess. The perfect antenna for the sort of person that doesn't use a base station and just wants to be able to sit inside their house and hit any of their local repeaters given they're pumping out 5 watts or more of real actual forward power.As a note, in testing this antenna, holding it keyed up for 10-15 seconds at 10 watts, the base did get noticeably warm.If you have a UV-8000E and use the stock long antenna, and you want to TRANSMIT, get this one, it is according to my measurement a more efficient antenna for transmitting.This would be a 5 star if it wasn't for the fact that its /about/ $30 as of writing, doesn't handle bending as well as others, and its reception isn't as fantastic as promised. I get an swr of 1.5 on 147.25mhz on a baofeng ar5rm. You will need a female to female adapter. I consider this a good antenna.

I inherited an old Yaesu VX-2R 2m/70cm ham transceiver. It came with a VERY short stubby antenna. I measured the stock antenna SWR as follows:146MHz - 2.04:1442MHz - 1.02:1After installing the Diamond SRH77CA:146MHz - 1.01:1442MHz - 1.02:1Obviously, the improvement at VHF is dramatic and substantial. UHF is about the same. YMMV as far as improvement depending on your stock antenna, but certainly got my money's worth. A little bit unwieldy at 15-3/4" but manageable.
