Nice Purchase

The book is small and handy and the quality of book and pages is nice. Images provided in book are also very neet and clean even in black and white.Overall satisfied with the purchaseCan't say about the content write now but it also seems to be nice.

Exhilarating Read!

This is indeed a very good for beginners and I myself as a beginner enjoyed this book immensely. The first six chapters of the book had been exhilarating and the latter four chapters not so much. One of the purpose of Philosophy, I believe, is that it makes the abstract explicit. Metaphysics and this book also probes abstract ideas such as causation, instantiation, generalisation, changes(macroscopic and microscopic) etc. These abstract ideas as everyone would agree abound in our daily lives and in particular, in any field of human inquiry such as science, economics. law etc. Understanding these concepts could reduce the tangle and make the grasp of other fields of knowledge easier. For example, the causal explanation of phenomenon for an anthropologist is at a different plane than for a microbiologist, who would seek to reduce and explain everything in terms of DNA. Now, the grasp of anthropology to a microbiologist could be made easier if he/she accepts and knows there are ways to explain a phenomenon besides their reductionist way. This book among other things gives the vocabulary/language to explain to oneself and others these abstract ideas and to unequivocally communicate. In the last chapter, the author discusses if metaphysics is about the structure of human reasoning or does it correspond to reality. The author does acknowledge some view metaphysics as childish and offers his counter argument.

It couldn't have been better

I have read the book twice till now. And perhaps I'll read it again. It uncovers the topic of metaphysics in such a lucid manner that it becomes easy to understand both Indian and western thought in this field.GREAT WORK.....

May be "very short" but very good too!

Wonderful book. Clear and jargon-free discussion on one of the toughest strands of philosophy.
