Good software, horrible support experience
This is good software for a small business. I have used QB for decades and it does what I need it to do. However, as others mention, Intuit customer service is lacking. I regard their business practices as sleazy. They insist on having your credit card and charging you to upgrade/continue your subscription with no customer input and they make if VERY difficult for you to do otherwise. I have to fight the same battle every year; Remember to intervene or call them to remove the exorbitant credit card charge. 20-30 minutes on the phone with these people for something that should be able to be easily done through the software interface or customer profile. Then, after upgrading, spend another 30 minutes on the phone "deactivating" the old software and "activating" the new. Most every software company in the world lets you install, use, and activate its software independently via the internet. Not Intuit. Making it easy would not allow them to herd you. Frankly, I'm surprised they have not already been the object of a class action lawsuit over this.

Intuit will waste a lot of your time because they want you to buy this software directly from them at a higher price.
Same experience as many others. Started updating at 9:30am, finally got it working right at 11:55 am after contacting Intuit 3 times. It's good software to run your business, but Intuit is pushing customers to buy updates directly from them (more expensive) and also switch to the online version, so it seems they are intentionally complicating things that should be simple for the user. Had to call them to switch to the new payroll subscription and get a new payroll service key. Then my payroll service PIN stopped working, then I got locked out of the payroll login due to failed PIN verifications, so had to contact customer service again to get the payroll service to work after completing setup. Each time you contact customer service they ask you to wait for things that should not take so long. "Let me pull up the account. Can I have 2-3 minutes please?" and "You can put your phone on speaker while I wait for the system to update your account."After the second time contacting customer support I was told that I need to contact their payroll department instead (800-450-8459) to deal with the PIN problem. "Give me a minute while I pull up the account.... It's pulling up right now, just give me a few minutes, sorry for the long wait." "Can I put you on hold for a minute or two while I correct everything here on my end?"Finally got the update working after almost 2.5 hours invested into setting up the new version and payroll.

Hey Intuit, haven't you ever heard the saying "Don't fix it if it ain't broken"!
You will save a substantial amount buying from Amazon over letting it auto renew through intuit. When QuickBooks is working it does what I need very well. But every few months it has an issue that necessitates a call to customer service. I'm sure it's tied to updates but I have not really paid that close of attention. The calls to customer service are miserable. You get someone that is difficult to understand and while they have always resolved the problem eventually, it takes an excessive amount of time, routinely more than an hour. One time when I called in apparently everyone was having the same issue I was as the message said my estimated wait time to speak to a representative was 52 minutes. Couple that with the usual hour while the representative works on the problem or transfers you to someone else because they can't fix it and it's ridiculous.

Very pleasantly surprised...
I was very pleasantly surprised with my purchase experience on QB Pro 2018. Instead of paying $400+ for payroll, I usually just buy the new version with Enhanced Payroll included. I missed the boat last year though, so was charged the renewal fee. Before installing the 2018 version, I turned off the Payroll activation. I did not have QB on the new desktop I was installing to, so I just installed the download program. (Note: always right-click the download file and select "Open in Folder". Then right-click the file name, and select "Run as Administrator" -- this will quite often save you a lot of heartache. Once installed I simply called the QB helpline and explained what I was doing. Agent said no problem and immediately processed a credit for my unused payroll subscription. I then went into QB and went through the "Install from Box" section in Payroll area.Haven't had a single problem with QB or payroll.

The software is excellent but to get the new Payroll Subscription activated is ...
The software is excellent but to get the new Payroll Subscription activated is a real pain. Installation (from QB Pro 2017) to 2018 version is easy, to activate the payroll subscription you need to call 800-446-8848, spend 37 minutes on the phone, go back into QB, Employees, My Payroll Service, Manage Service Key, type in the (on the phone) newly provided Service Key and you are back in business.

Overpriced, miserable waste of time. Like a visit to your dentist but worse.
Such grief, what more can I add. 1. They automatically hit your credit card to renew subscription at almost double amazon price of 507.00$ no matter what you do. an hour and a half on the phone and 10 days later you might get your money back. Down loading is easy, update is straightforward until you try to activate the payroll portion of this mess. For some reason the payroll does not have the service key included with the download. WHY IS THIS ? The automated online key retrieval tool does not work. I do not care what the mfg says. They waste your time online and jerk you around (error 20004) only to have you need to call the 800 number and wait for 63 mins to speak to a foreigner. When will congress call these clowns on the carpet and have hearings on this miserable company ? The FTC needs to get involved. Send the CEO's and what not to prison sitting next to pharma bro and martha stewart.

The way to go for self employed who want the payroll service
This is the way to go if you are self employed and like the QuickBooks payroll service. This includes 1 employee on the payroll service. If you just had QuickBooks and subscribed to payroll with QuickBooks on their website it cost $29/Month (as of June 2018) - just for the cost of Payroll alone. So for the self employed this is the way to go in my opinion.
