Simply the best, apparently
I bought this before trailing round the internet looking for nurseries and one ultra-specialist fern nursery said that it was by far the best on the subject that is currently available - my experience of it would suggest that the comment was very likely accurate.Excellent, straight-forward, well laid-out and very readable.

Useful reference
Simple, informative and wide ranging. Information on ferns suitable for hardy and less hardy environments. The bulk consists of an encyclopaedia of the different species and cultivars (great photos), but there are also chapters covering growing from spores and nomenclature of the forms of ferns.

First class guide to ferns
Martin Rickard's excellent book is especially good for anyone having little or no knowledge of ferns and who wants an authoritative introductory guide without technical overload. The book begins with an informative and easy to read biology and history of ferns and is followed by an A to Z of fern groups and the individual ferns within them. There are many excellent large colour photographs of individual fronds to help with recognition, photographs of individual ferns and of ferns in situ/groups. Everything from propagation to treatment and where to buy ferns is included. A very well thought out and practically useful book.
