Silent Hill 2 Remake > Resident Evil 2 Remake > The Evil Within 2 > Alan Wake 2
I don't know where to start with this one.Well, first off, I've been a hardcore Remedy fan since 2001's "Max Payne". I've adored Sam Lake's writing and directing for a long time. But "Alan Wake 2" has so many problems, both as a product and as a game itself.First, what you get here with the Xbox version is NOT even the full game. If you don't know this going in, you'll be confused as to what is actually on the disc and what you need to download online to actually progress in the game, FROM HALFWAY THROUGH CHAPTER ONE! You basically get a one-hour demo disc with a digital code to download the additional 100+GBs. Now, normally internet isn't a problem, but when you're in the process of moving, I had to leave my console at my friend's place and then download the entire game through the XBox app via remote play with my cell phone. Again, the full game isn't on the disc! I guess the $75 million dollar budget didn't leave enough room for a 2-disc physical edition release of the game. I will never support this practice and I will be returning this game because this greed and laziness needs to be stopped immediately within the game industry.Second, when it comes to the actual game itself, I honestly do not understand all the 10/10 hype and praise when it comes to this. I enjoyed the first "Alan Wake" because it didn't feel like it overstayed its welcome. Even "Quantum Break" had some very good parts but it at least kept you going in a straight line and the stakes were intense. The biggest problem with "Alan Wake 2" is the very bland "rinse-and-repeat" walking-simulator nature of the game. Flashlight, shoot, run, find clue, repeat. If you like running around back-and-forth fetching while trying to decipher the nonsense babel of the dialogue and story, then maybe this will drive you wild if you could stay awake for most of it. And that's before all the "Sweet Baby Inc" far-left influence tries to dilute the entire experience. The game does not allow you to be smarter to Saga. You have to move at her pace, and it continues that way up until its anticlimactic and disjointed conclusion. There were plenty of puzzles where a bullet or a swift kick would have easily opened the door or broken the lock (and this was a problem with Alan sometimes too). Imagine the ending of "Silence Of The Lambs" but Clarice won't go down the basement unless she runs outside to the shed and finds a screwdriver that unlocks the container in the living room to find a map for the key in the 2nd floor bathroom to unlock the basement door.Alan "trying-to-stay-a" Wake 2 seems more like a fitting title. The good parts are James McCaffrey's final performance and this man's voice will be so greatly missed. I still haven't truly processed his passing, if I'm honest, because I lived with this man's voice in my head for so long. He singlehandedly saves the game from being a complete wreck. And the Poets Of The Fall soundtrack is like a warm slice of fried gold every time they appear. This game is NOT worth a buy. Maybe a rental. The Night Springs DLC is ok, but doesn't justify the $20 upgrade.

Full Version not playable off disc.
Xbox version includes only 1 disc instead of the multiple needed to have the full game played without an internet download required. After Chapter 1 the game prompts you to download the rest of the game from the internet. Having a physical copy released later without the game included on it should be illegal. Know what you’re getting with this stinker. PS5 version has full game on disc besides second DLC “Night Springs” because that DLC was not released yet when those discs were printed. Still sucks. I will be canceling my Amazon preorder.
