It's a shame most of us remember the movie so well when the book is so immeasurably better In every way. Darker themes, more imaginative creatures and wild riddles. The perfect fantasy book for all ages.

My children loved this book as a child now I bought them as a gift for my grandchildren. This is such a beloved story I am so happy I found this book.

I bought this as a gift for my adult daughter who loved it when younger. She was absolutely thrilled! The artwork is beautiful and it has the green and red print, which is hard to find.

Saw the movie as a child, wanted to read the book. It was delivered in a timely fashion & did not disappoint. It's always interesting to pick up on the differences.

I've never read this book until it was assigned reading in my Children's Literature class this semester; of course I had seen the movie as a kid, but the book is fairly different. More characters, more situations, more to imagine! I would recommend it. I read it to my 9 year old and 11 year old, and they both really enjoyed it too.

Wonderful quality of the physical book...but let's go to the heart of it. The story itself. Michael Ende wrote one of fantasy's greatest novels. A unique otherworld that once Bastian is a part of he loses his sense of self and his memories...its chilling.

A great book to read pulls you in to the story

Great book!

I cannot recommend this book enough- I absolutely love, love, LOVE it!! I purchased the book whilst browsing novelizations of favourite childhood movies, and I came across this. After reading the reviews raving about how great it is, I just HAD to have it! I bought a used copy which is in perfect condition, apart from the Christian name of the previous owner written in ink on the first page (but I don't mind about that).From the first page, I was absolutely blown away. As a reader, I was instantly transported into the magical world of Fantastica, and I could not put the book down! It took me just two days to read, and it is a fat book with smallish writing- which is great, as it means the books takes longer to read ;) . Michael Ende really was a truly remarkable writer of fantasy fiction. His novel an absolute work of art. After reading the book, I researched him online, and it was easy to see where he acquired his enormous talent for such imaginative writing from, as his father was a surrealism artist and Ende lived with his parents in 'artists' quarters. In fact, reading about Michael Ende's extraordinary life is very interesting indeed- take a look at Wikipedia or the official Michael Ende website.It's a shame Ende never wrote a sequel to The Neverending Story, but I suppose if he had, he wouldn't have left us all wishing for more!!The book (i don't know if all are, but my version was published by King Puffin) is printed throughout in two different inks- green, and red, to denote the 'real present' for red, and Fantastica for green. Also, each chapter begins with an illustration of the first letter of the chapter on a whole page (26 chapters, with every one in alphabetical order re the first letter of the first word- which is a nice touch) adorned with some of the many outlandish characters from the book. It really does help to make you feel like you are actually reading the book that Bastian, the main character in the book, is actually reading. It's just a shame I couldn't purchase a book bound with the same material and snake amulet! :) N.B Michael Ende did ask the publishers to publish the book in the same form as the book featured within the book, but the request was declined as it would be too costly.I'm just sorry the book had to come to an end- it is by far one of the BEST books I've ever read in my life- and I'm 38. This book will appeal to ALL ages. It isn't patronising and is written to appeal to intelligent readers, which is one of the most positive things about this book. FANTASTIC, engrossing, magical story that is jam packed with excitement and inventive characters and adventures throughout. Wow, I do admire such talented writers like this one. I will be sure to purchase more of his books. I would give this book 100 stars if I could- and I have read probably thousands of books so far in my lifetime. This really is of the highest quality. Buy it- you will NOT regret it!! Reading this book is like actually being IN the book. I feel like I've just physically been to Fantastica! I will definitely read this again one day- and I've only ever actually re-read a book very rarely before.

Michael Ende was a master of his art, his craft at storytelling not only makes for compelling characters, but also his ability to lightly delve into a world of pure fantasy is what makes this book so appealing for me. I bought it after reading 'Momo' another title of his which I highly recommend. The book has a purity in the writing and characters about it, that makes it extremely difficult to put down. Well recommended for both adults and young children.

Wow! What a story. My children loved this when they were yoiunger, and the Video [at that time], was never off. Reading it now, all of the wonder and joy returns. Make believe! Can't live without it, let your imagination soar!

My 10 yr old sons current book, he seems to be found with his nose stuck in it on a regular basis.
