Great terminal
I am tired of reviews spouting some garbage about Elevon and blaming this machine. First off many of us do NOT use Elevon. I use World pay and had 0 problems hooking up and downloading this machine. So instead of blaming the terminal, blame YOUR choice to have a subpar processing company.I used a Verifone Omni 3200SE until last week which this replaced which I am primarily comparing it to. They said it was outdated but it did have many features this did not. An UPDATED terminal should be better and retain features which were helpful. Verifone decided not to do that in the cases cited below.The Cons are:It spits out a lot of paper with a mandatory batch report prior to settlement which seems to not be able to be turned off. this is an unnecessary waste of thermal paper.Lack of customization. In alignment with what I said about the reports...the backlight cannot be adjusted (It should since it has a parameter for it but it does not work on any of these terminals).No pre authorization. WHY? I am not sure why they removed this feature but it is a complete lack of insight and a PITA now.Programming has many sub menus now. Whereas before we had a few buttons for things, now you have one button and a LOT of sub menus.The Pro:This unit is FAST. I was using dial up prior so I may be skewed. But I press the enter key and transaction is DONE.Smaller footprint. This terminal is about 2/3 of the size of my last one.Uses the same paper. At least that they carried over. I have over 200 rolls from the last terminal.Internet connection. Actually a LOT of ways to connect. Fast.Contactless, debit, swipe & chip card reader.I will update this as time goes on.

Excellent version of VX520 credit card terminal.
Nice unit, covers all the new EMV protocol, VeriFone is one of the top names in credit card processing equipment. Be sure of the exact model you are buying and that it will work with your cc processing company - Apparently, different version numbers of the VX520 vary by region. Also, be aware this is not a do it yourself setup of this equipment. I chose to buy my terminal, but I have a processor that was willing to set it up. First, they have to "build" a file with all your info.in it. Then your processor has to be willing to download the basic files, took 45 mins.via Ethernet and High Speed Internet and a ton of keyed in input by me following the technicians direction. After that, we downloaded the file they had put together or I.E. the application. All told I had about 2 hours of extremely tedious listening and key entry on the terminal to get it up and running. The other option is to simply buy or lease the terminal, pay the extra money this is going to cost you, have all this stuff pre-loaded, just hook it up in your facility. If I was doing it over again, I would probably do the latter.

Discount Credit Card Supplies A+++
Discount Credit Card Supplies is the Amazon seller I purchased from. Everything arrived quickly and exactly as described. My processing company is Vantiv and it was very simple to set this machine up with them. I will say that I tried to be cheap and ordered from ebay and two other businesses first bc it was half the price. The one from eBay was refurbished and cost around $40. It broke after 2 weeks. The other two companies cost around $70, but neither have even shipped the machine yet even though it's been almost 2 weeks. On top of that, I haven't received any updates from either company. I couldn't wait any longer, obviously, so I went ahead and paid the higher price on Amazon for a new credit card machine and decided I would keep whichever machine arrived first. The winner was the Amazon seller. I don't know how much money I lost the past couple of weeks trying to be cheap.

Works with Elavon after download.
So far, so good. The tech at Elavon was able to guide me through the process to download the files for Elavon. It took a while for the files to download, even when connected to the internet. It took 2 tries, but it booted up with Elavon with no problems. I mentioned to my tech about using the Debit function, he looked and noted that debit was not listed on my account. I'm assuming that he would have been able to install that function if it was listed. There was a review by someone else who stated that Debit function required another keypad.I'm not certain, but in the manual (search google Verifone VX 520 Manual, see Page 33) it shows that Debit & credit functions are available.I will update if any issues.

Came as described, but without an owners manual. ...
Came as described,but without an owners manual. No big issue,just make sure you get at least a "Quick Start Guide" from your CC processor.Installed the VX520 and Elavon programmed it for me over the phone line. If you use the phone line for your programming,expect it to take a couple of hours. No fault of the VX520 ,but of the sloth like download over the phone line. My plan is to get it hooked up to the ethernet line for faster future downloads and processing.Small size of paper roll will cause you to keep an eye on remaing paper for your transactions.A thank you to the seller for his time helping me understand what I was buying.

Master card debit not working
Reliable. Working super fast with chip reading and only needing to swipe once. Most of the credit cards working fine accept some Master debit cards that required to enter PIN. There are reviews indicated that it missing encryption. Nevertheless, Visa debit cards working great without asking to enter PIN. Contacted Elavon twice and they willingly wiping then reinstall the software. Still having the problem with some master debit card. Contacted the seller and they indicated that it need to be injecting with encryption with a charge of $45. Should this injection be put on prior of shipping out to customers? You probably need to request the seller to do so prior of purchasing.In my case, every debit/credit cards working great accept some master debit card.
