Trumpocracy: The Corruption of the American Republic

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. - Edmund Burke
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. - Edmund BurkeNever can these words have been so apposite as in this, the era of "Trumpocracy".This is,quite simply, one of the finest, and yet most frightening, appalling books I have ever read. It is a meticulous, unsparing examination of how excessive power corrupts not only those who wield it, but also infects those who were previously honourable men and women, and who, I am certain, never imagined that they would find themselves working in a toxic administration for a man so vain and childish and downright psychotically evil that they are required to justify the unjustifiable, defend the indefensible and lie, lie, lie to protect him and their own jobs. If you thought that you were fully aware of the venal, grasping and dishonest nature of this disgusting man, then think again. I read this in one sitting, alternately seething with anger and almost weeping at the tragedy of what America has become. Trump is pathologically dishonest - he lies about everything from his weight and height to his shady and compromising relationship with Vladimir Putin - and those on his staff and in his party (which can no longer claim to be the Republican party - it is The Trump Party) do likewise. But this is no mere hatchet job written by a simple Trump-hater. Rather, it is a reasoned, forensic discussion of how Trump came to power, how he remains in power and (hopefully) how he will be ousted. The corruption of the man and his greedy, grasping, nasty family is astonishing, but based on this author's closing chapter, all is not yet lost. If you read no other book about American power and politics, read this one.

An appeal to a better America
This is one of those books that everyone who wishes to defend democracy should read. It is a call to recongise the danger of and to be better than the horror show of the Trump presidency. The author, who was a speech writer for President Bush so can`t be dismissed as being a bitter leftie lays into the deceptions , lies and basic corruption of a man who demeans the presidency. He appeals to the better ideals of the republic and explains how good people justify working for and defending Trump and why the Republican party rallies around him.The author does not pull his punches in denouncing Trump and is actions as treacherous and the point is made several times about the influence Russia may have over him. It does not however degenerate into just being an anti Trump rant and places Trump , or rather explains how on earth someone like Trump gained power, in the wider context of American politics, attitudes and trends. An essential read for anyone with the remotest interest in American politics.

Superb
Mr. Frum knows his subject. He gives a clear and concise dive into today’s White House. I’m late in giving this review because having bought this book many months ago, the predictions have now been spot on. Recommend this for anyone who has even the slightest curiosity in US politics as it’s an easy read, if like me you’ve made a study of recent US/World politics this is essential reading.

Wise Thoughts On A Nation and Democracy In Crisis
Trust me, if you want to read a valid antidote to Michael Wolff's execrable 'Fire and Fury'then look no further than David Frum's new book 'Trumpocracy : The Corruption Of TheAmerican Republic' for a lucid and deeply felt analysis of the current calamity in Washington.A life-long Republican (although he owns up to having voted for Clinton in the 2016 election!),Mr Frum takes stock of a party, country and democracy in crisis. It is a thoroughly gripping book.Highly Recommended.

Criticcal and honest
I imagined that this book might be a hit job on Trump, but it is a well-reasoned and thought out intellectual analysis of the challenges to democracy that the Trump administration represents. Well-written, easy read by a long time Republican insider.

Serious from beginning to end with fact after fact. It’s a book that makes you stop, think, worry and worry some more.

Excellent Book
Excellent book. Depressing to truly understand how low some have bent to accommodate Trump. However great that strong conservatives stay true to their own ethics. Not a conservative myself but both sides need the moderate sensible (thinking) voices to be in charge.
