Pretty sure this does not really work correctly
I bought this detector to help diagnose some potential leaks. It is easy to read and the adjustable neck/nozzle helps with positioning. That said, it may only be detecting particulates in gusting air.I tested it with my stove top and it detected the gas. However, I also blew air towards the detector and it detected something (enough to make it go into alarm). I compared this versus one of the smaller pen styles which detected the same thing at the stove but nothing from blowing at it. I also checked vehicle exhaust and sometimes got it to read something and other times nothing (while the pen detector worked every time).Pretty sure the detector I received is junk (others may have a good one). Buyer beware.

Simple to use, great display, needs a screwdriver to access battery compartment
The media could not be loaded. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Comes in a cardboard box. Inside is a fabric pouch. A very simple instruction booklet, 9 batteries and a screwdriver. This meter takes 3 batteries.USING: The instructions are so short and simple because the use of this meter is so simple. It a simple power button and once it self calibrates you are automatically detecting. The other buttons just change units from LEL to PPM; degF to degC; and cancel the auto off function. I have included a video showing it detecting natural gas with an audible alarm. The display is very easy to read.CONCLUSION: This is a good meter, I am glad to add it to my arsenal of gadgets. One of my 'don't likes` is having to use a screwdriver or other tool to access a battery compartment. As an infrequent user I know I have take the batteries out after use. Having to use a screwdriver and risk losing the tiny screw each time is not well though out. REVIEW PHILOSOPHY: I only review a product if it is something I am capable of critically evaluating through comparison, testing and use. This means I have experience of using similar items; or that I have equipment or tools that I can test it with; or that I have an upcoming need so I can actually use. I am as selective about getting an item to review as I would be about purchasing that same item, so yes, I expect it to be a good product. My reviews are NOT based on packaging or if it was delivered timely.

Works as expected.
I did a couple of quick tests to see if it would register propane and gas since those are easy combustible gasses, I had access to. It worked and picked it up quickly. It also came with 3 sets of batteries! No one does that anymore. A nice bonus. The one downside is the battery door. If you lose the tiny little screw, you will have to tape the battery door closed. A slightly better design would have been nice.

it's a good detector to have...
This MESTEK store brand gas leak detector is easy to carry around as it's lightweight and small enough to fit in your hand.it has a 12" flexible sensor, which looks somewhat like an antenna.it's been a very reliable meter for when we smell some gas in the air and we have come to rely on this frequently. We walk around and see how the reading changes in different places and determine the origin of the gas.The long sensor is useful too as it can reach into small spaces and behind some things to check out the air quality where it's harder to reach. When you first turn this propane/gas detector on, there's a 30 second warmup countdown, and then the meter begins to measure the gas in the air.You can choose either PPM (parts per million) or %LEL (percent lower explosive level); the numbers show in the middle of the LED screen. The meter automatically shuts off after awhile unless you press the APO button.it also tells you the temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celsius.it requires 3 AAA batteries which are not included.i like it and definitely give it 5 stars.i hope this review is helpful.Sabiene :)
