I no longer fear cutting the dreaded butternut squash!
I have never owned a professional knife yet so my review is through the eyes of a professional knife newbie. I love to cook and not sure why it took so long to get a "real" knife. The difference between a good knife like this one, and regular cheaper knife (like the ones in my drawer), is like night and day. I am so used to "sawing" my meat and veggies, and now I get to bring out my inner master chef with my new Okami Chef Knife. I can chop a whole onion in seconds and can slice raw beef practically using one finger. It is SHARP and I have already cut myself; just a small nick but I need to be more careful. The wide part of the knife close to the handle was the culprit. I was holding the knife too close to that part and have since adjusted the way I hold the knife. This Okami Knife slices right through a ripe tomato. I can cut my tomato as thin as I want with ease. It took me less than 10 seconds to cut a pineapple. I used to dread cutting butternut squash. Not anymore! So, I love the way it cuts. It is also really pretty and comes with a gorgeous box and a protective sleeve. I like to store it in the box, seems safer. Made of German Steel which is supposed to be easier to home sharpen. I don't anticipate having to sharpen it often but I plan on making sure it is always sharp, via the husband as I don't know how. The handle is very comfortable and easy to hold (just don't hold it too close to the end like I did) for big chopping jobs. I am very pleased with the quality of this knife for the price. If I were chef ramsay, I might find a reason to not give it 5 stars, but this knife newbie can find no reason to *not* give this knife 5 stars. Would make an excellent gift! Happy slicing and dicing!!

Falls Short on Fit & Finish
A Chef's knife is the single most important tool in any kitchen, and is used in the creation of virtually every dish...I knew that the blade I would choose mattered and so I spent a good deal of time researching, endeavoring to find the perfect balance of performance and price. When I discovered the Okami Chef Knife, I was hopeful that I had found the perfect blade. Here's what I liked about the knife. The price point makes it a highly affordable knife that isn't going to crush your budget. The blade has a beautiful curve to it which gives it a tremendous rocking motion when chopping and mincing. The large and ergonomic handle offers a solid in-hand fit, feel and performance. And there's no way around the impressive packaging that the Knife comes with. All that said, here is why I ended up returning the knife. First, I was a little surprised by the light weight of the blade. Admittedly, I knew that at this price point I wasn't going to get a meaty blade that had some heft and serious substance to it, but the weight of the knife made it feel like a lower quality product. The other issue that I had with the knife was the overall fit and finish of the product. Out of the box, the handle had several indentations in it, I was also disappointed by the finish of the handle as the aesthetic lines weren't sharp or clean. Now I realize that may sound minor and petty... but when you consider how crisp and sharp the packaging is, I expected a little more. In all sincerity, I would prefer that the brand spend a little less on the stellar packaging and instead put the additional financial resources to ensuring that the actual product had a crisp all around finish without blemishes. For the price, I felt as though I was better off opting for my 7 inch santoku Knife which I purchased at Costco for $15.

Respectable review from an industry chef
I am A professional trained chef who Has worked in the industry for many years. I do various research on Knife companies before I order any of my knifes. The knives in my collection range from Okami, Mercer, wustoff, and mainly Mac. I can only give you my opinion on this brand, after a year of employment from my Chef de Partie's , I will get them a token of my Apreciation which is always a chef knife. I bought this knife for one of my Chef de Partie's recently. The knife Is well balanced it is a thinner high quality steel in a Japanese style it retains its edge it is a bit wide for my personal Preference though but it is used daily and he happens to love it. I would rate this knife 8 out of 10 due to the fact it is more of a mid range Knife compared to my More expensive $300- $400 Mac's. I hope that this helps

Cooking is my zen. After a long day of momming, being in the kitchen with a good podcast prepping dinner is when I can get in the zone and relax. I might have a rather large knife collection. I'm always looking for THE KNIFE. The sharpest, the one that fits the best in my hand, the one that stays sharp through the first week of use.Well. I have finally found THE KNIFE.It comes in a gorgeous box. I wasn't even sure if I was going to unpack it and try using it, that's how adorable it looked. But I'm really glad I did. The handle is slightly curved so it literally fits perfectly in your hand. If you have a lot of chop work to do, your hand doesn't hurt halfway through anymore. It's weighted perfectly which was the part that sold me. It's easy to find a sharp blade but the perfect weight to help you efficiently chop anything and everything you'd need to chop is really rare and this knife does that. And yes, the blade is very sharp. I told my husband no less than 4 times over two days. The last time being "BE CAREFUL IT'S REALLY SHARP." Someone didn't listen and someone cut his finger and someone is now very respectful of his wife's fancy favorite knife. The blade is thin but not too thin and very very sharp so you can really cut things paper thin if you want to. This knife easily glides through thick potatoes like butter.Last, I just really like the cool sound it makes as it cuts stuff. It's the coolest sound ever and I find things to cut up just to hear it.

Sharp and strong. An amazing chef knife.
This is an excellent knife! It is by far my favorite and sharpest knife in my kitchen now. The most similar knife that I had is a relatively inexpensive Victorinox chef's knife, and this Okami knife is far preferable now. Though the Victorinox knife was sharp and worked well, this Okami knife is very sharp and it feels great in my hand. The knife has some weight to it, and the blade is one piece with the handle, so it feels very solid and strong. It is silly how surprised I am by how great it is to have a great and sharp knife for food prep. I am exceptionally pleased by this knife.

Amazing Knife; Great Gift!
I ordered this knife as a Christmas gift for my best friend who LOVES cooking and is super particular about his knives. I was so excited to get this for him and I know he's going to love it. The packaging itself is impressive...a fancy decorative box and great presentation. The knife is SUPER sharp and the handle is sturdy. It's going to do a great job and last a long time. Can't wait to surprise him with this professional knife! Definitely recommend this item for any professional or amateur chef. Also a great gift idea!

My new all-purpose knife!
So far - loving this knife! I am woefully short of sharp knives in my house and we grill meat all summer long. I was pretty excited to try out this meat on some steak. Cut through it just like butter, both raw and after cooked (yes, I washed well in between!). I've also used to slice potatoes, which never fails to make my hands exhausted, and dice up herbs. While it's not meant for the finer dicing, I like to put my knives through the all-purpose paces. Definitely a good knife so far.

Fantastic knife
The Okami chef knife came in a great box for storing with perfect padding and a sheath to keep it in if not in a box. I love the handle and weight of the knife, easy to maneuver yet with enough weight to really help with slicing. I tried it on a tomatoe first to really see if it was sharp enough to slice right through and it did the job better than any knife I've used before. I already love this knife and plan on using daily!

Good Value
This is a great price for a balanced knife which is extremely sharp. I was so impressed with the first one I got for my husband that I bought this second one as a gift for a friend.

Perfect Balance
Balance is great and feels natural. Resting the knife on your finger at the bolster the balance is even between the blade and handle. The curved handle is comfortable with plenty of knuckle room. Also very sharp out of the box. Equal to much higher priced chef knives.

Good for the Money
Nice knife with nice presentation and form. My only disappointment is that it was fairly dull on arrival. I had to force through onions with it, which I was not expecting. My 25 year old Wuhstoff is still sharper, and I only use basic kitchen sharpener on it. I plan to try and sharpen it myself to see if I can get it to be more enjoyable to use.

THIS KNIFE IS NOT SHARP
This was the most disappointing purchase of 2019. I purchased this knife for my brothers birthday. For beginners, the knife is NOT SHARP. I own a WAL-MART knife that I was going to let go of to replace with this one. The WAL-MART $10 KNIFE is 10 times SHARPER than this $60+ dollar knife. Do NOT waste your money. I am so disappointed & feel robbed of my money by buying this knife. I held onto it until his birthday only to have my brother become excited about it, then immediately disappointed. It was an embarrassing moment specially because I can’t return it! It was a birthday gift I held onto until the day arrived so the time limit to return ended & I will never buy another one of these products ever again.

Awesome knife
This knife has a handle shape that makes it really comfortable to hold in your hand, and you can feel that it's very sturdy and well made. The blade cuts easily through everything, and the blade size works great for cutting a lot of different foods. The knife comes in a cool box with a sleeve to protect the blade if you want to keep it in a drawer.

Great for chopping and holds a blade better than my more expensive Japanese knife. I didn't love it as much as my Japanese at first, but now I find myself reaching for this one equally. I've since purchased another knife by this brand and I'm really satisfied with the quality, function, and price. Zero complaints.
