These DO NOT work!

I soldered one into a board with $100 worth of components to find out it didn’t play sound. Triple checked and it still did not work. I carefully desoldered it and used the second one that came with it and it still did not work. DO NOT USE THESE. They destroyed my board and I am out over $100 now. Absolute garbage.

Works perfect with certain libs, very clear.

I'll post more later, but first blush, works great with the DFRobotDFPlayerMini library. Since it's a tight lib, you need to use the busy pin (digitalRead) to tell if it's playing a track so you don't step on output. There's a great YT (with a GIT link) on this with LED lights that explains it and you'll need it if a longer track is playing and you send a request, it doesn't block, so you'll stop the track (cutting it off) and play the newly requested track. So far, I've tested, and it seems numbering is not relevant, it's the date and time you copy the track to the SD. I'll test more, but I had some tracks with a number and some without (which I was planning to use later for certain alerts) and using .next() sees them (even in an unnumbered folder) and plays them and I can call them directly. So, .play(6) for instance is the 6th file copied to the SD, NOT the file named 0006-LightOffWarning.mp3. I've not tested it extensively yet, but I also saw a YT where .WAV files play as well.Couple things to know:1 -- the library Example files have some compiler directives, if you're using different boards than those #if provide for, (NANO for me) be sure to clean that up (just comment it all out) or it won't compile.2 -- Be SURE to use a divider (650k/100k) or a 1k ohm direct resistor to the RX pin or it will NOT initialize from my experience, and you'll think something else is wrong. I tried different sized Rs per some vids out there, and finally it is consistently perfect with the 1K ohm. The only one I had is 1/4W and it's working fine but will look into longevity of the setup.3 -- Sound level at 22-26 provides the best clarity, 30 seems to crackle a bit so if you want really loud (music) you'll need an amp and other speakers. I'm using it for simple alert messages, so it's perfect for me.4 -- Be sure your files are all within the limits listed for the card (sample rate/etc.) or they will SEEM to play, but won't play and you'll think something else is wrong. I had one outside the specs and there was a pause, like it was playing, but nothing was output.Again, I'll update later with more results but, so far, great device.

Neither DFPlayer worked

So one of the dfplayer modules was missing a pin. And neither showed status when powered or responded via serial signal on the arduinos (i have other identical modules that do). This was complete garbage.

Does not allow looping as stand alone module

Apparently there are original boards and gimick boards. This is one of those gimick boards. It does not allow the same functionality as the original ones. All the videos I have seen allow you to loop the same audio as soon as power is added to the circuit. These do not allow you to do that.

Exactly what I expected, but the speakers arrived damaged.

They packaged the speakers back-to-front, in two separate zip-lock bags without anything separating them. The magnets pulled each pair together and collapsed the cones for two of the speakers. I was able to repair the damaged ones with a suction cup to deflate the cones, and some tape to stop them from rattling. The DFPlayer Mini MP3 modules were in excellent shape, and work great. The two undamaged speakers are very clear, and work great. If it weren't for the damaged speakers, it'd be a 5 star review.

Inferior clone chipset

The unit I received has a GD3200D chip, not an YX5*** - as a consequence the standard dfrobot arduino library is finicky except for the most basic stuff.
