TopTes PT520A Gas Detector
I recently purchased the TopTes PT520A Gas Detector for added safety in my home and RV, and I am very impressed with its performance. Here are some highlights of my experience:The device is well-constructed, with a durable and bright orange casing that makes it easy to spot among my tools. The 43.5cm gooseneck is flexible yet sturdy, allowing me to reach into tight spaces and awkward angles effortlessly. It’s lightweight and portable, making it convenient to carry around the house or in the RV.Setting up the detector was straightforward. It came with three batteries included, so I was able to use it right out of the box. The device powers on quickly, and the user interface is intuitive. The on/off button, combined with sensitivity adjustment, is simple to operate, even for someone who’s not particularly tech-savvy.The TopTes PT520A does an excellent job at detecting gas leaks. I tested it around my kitchen stove and the propane lines, and it was able to identify even small leaks that I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. The adjustable sensitivity feature is fantastic for pinpointing the exact location of leaks, especially in hard-to-reach places. The audible alarm is loud and clear, which gives peace of mind knowing I won’t miss a detection alert. This detector is capable of identifying multiple types of gases, including methane, natural gas, propane, and other combustible gases. This versatility is a huge plus, especially for anyone using it in different environments like a home, RV, or even a workshop.I’m highly satisfied with the TopTes PT520A Gas Detector. It’s reliable, easy to use, and provides an extra layer of safety for both my home and RV. It’s well worth the investment for anyone looking to protect their property from potential gas leaks.

Neat
Yet to test fully but seems to do as it says on the tin. Useful case and sturdy build quality. Was hoping for some form of calibration details from new though but no paper work included. Not sure if life span of sensor either.

Gas detector
This is a lot better than I expected. It feels robust, the goose neck holds its shape well and is a good length. It is easy to use, the only special action you need to do is to 'zero' it when you turn it on. You do this by turning it on somewhere with no combustible gases (I step outside to do this) and just wait about 15 seconds.Test it out by, for example, turning on a gas ring on your job briefly or letting gas escape from a lighter. I found my white board pen with the cap off was enough to set it off.Other came comments mention that the display is not bright enough. It is not backlit, so if you plan to use it outdoors you may need to cup your hand around the display to see it better, depending on the ambient light. This is not a problem for occasional outdoor use ( I checked my gas meter) but might annoy if you plan to use it primarily outdoors. There was no problem at all using it indoors - the display was very clear. It confirmed I don't have a gas leak, so was worth the money for me.Unless you will be using it regularly I would recommend removing the batteries while it is being stored, just in case they leak. It came with 3 AAA Duracell batteries and I have had that brand leak in the past. (I generally prefer Energizer for this reason). You unscrew the battery compartment with a small Philips screwdriver. The instructions, I would guess, have been translated into English from another language and this had been done quite well. There is no difficulty understanding them and I found some of the phrasing quite amusing (though this could just be my weird brain).

It saved my life. Actually!
We smelt gas, we called in the gas company who acknowledged a small drop in the pressure after a timed test, but they couldn't detect or trace the cause of the leak and turned the gas back on.We continued to smell gas, and whilst I could've made a Arduino gas detector I purchased this, and tested it, it detected gas at the cooker with ease.I needed to do some basic plumbing work, with a gas blowtorch to install some copper pipework for an outside tap and indoor filter, completely legal in the UK for a handyman to do in their own home, so just out of caution wanded around the pipes and the area in general when I got a suddenly very surreal alarm and the gauge shot into the red zone!...I was able to detect with this device the leak was coming from an area in the wall where a old 1950's gas tap had been hidden, totally unknown to us as the kitchen had been remoddled before we purchased the place.I called the gas company who came and rectified the leak, and we're surprised the device was sensitive enough to detect what was a very small insignificant leak.Basically this saved my life! The batteries last well, the sensitivity is incredibly good, and this purchased saved me and the property from an explosion.I the UK it is illegal for non gas registered persons to interfere with gas pipes or gas appliances, with very few exceptions, and with good reason too. However, this device can assist with safe detection of even a small leak if used correctly, but if you smell gas you should always turn off the gas at the meter and call your gas emergency number until told it is safe to turn it back on, this product is not a replacement for good practice.

Well worth the investment.
My Smart meter application was showing I was loosing gas every day. No gas using my sturdy nose was detected in my home. I had no idea where the leak might be. I bought this and I am glad I did. Found the leak in minutes from a pipe in an elevated position on the outside wall well away from my old nose. I had the confidence to call a gas fitter and face his bill to come and effect a repair. It returned the investment buying the device in 2 weeks. The gas fitters bill will take a little longer.
