Cracked Sapphire (Broken Gems Book 1)

Wow...I loved the dual genre aspect of this book (mystery/romance). It is quite dark at times so read with caution and check warnings beforehand. Sapphire is a fantastic female character who definitely keeps Gideon on his toes. You get to see them grow their bond while trying to find the killer. You'll be completely hooked and on the edge of your seat guessing what is going to happen next and find out if your guess at who the killer is correct! The pace of the story was a little slow, and I would have preferred a first person perspective. I look forward to reading future books in this series about the Hatcher sisters. I'd recommend Cracked Sapphire to readers who enjoy a murder mystery.Cracked Sapphire is two genres rolled into one. I usually prefer romance with a splash of action and intrigue, where I feel this book was a bit more heavier on the detective aspect, with the romance taking a back seat for much of the novel. Sapphire is an interesting character. I feel like we got a great insight into her personality and the connection to her was strong. I loved Gideon and how he grew his bond with Sapphire. I wish more time had been spent focused on them, rather than the case they were involved in solving.I love a good mystery read, trying to figure out who the killer is from a cast of suspects. I especially love those that have romance and a cool plot twist. I thought I had read all of Jane Blythe's books then came across this series. I had high expectations as I always expect a great read from Jane and this book certainly did not disappoint. The story has a real shock beginning that drags you straight into the story. Sapphire is an absolutely brilliant character who you cannot help but empathise with. She is clever, funny, and definitely feisty! Her first interactions with Gabriel are hilarious. This book really has it all, an exciting plotline, likeable characters, and great romance. This book will take you on a roller coaster of emotions, laughter, tears, excitement, shock. There are also lots of exciting tidbits of information about other characters that had me grabbing for the next book in the series the minute I had finished. I recommend this book unreservedly and as I write this am already half way through the second! (less)

From the get go this book is really dark and horrible, in fact, I almost gave up after only a few chapters, not that I couldn't handle the coming horror, but because why would anyone want to read such disgusting, devastating filth?!Anyway, fortunately, although quite detailed, it didn't take you to the actual dirty deed. Even as the story passes the rapes aren't written in detail.It was a hard book to read in truth, not just because of it's content but because it dragged, the writing was repetitive. Yes...The teenage girl and her sisters were sold to sex traffickers and the author told you that every few sentences...repeatedly. The ' romance ' part of the story I didn't buy at all, I felt zero chemistry between them.Now, besides the sex trafficking part you've got a serial rapist and killer of teenage girls which is written in between the angst of the female protagonist, there're many twists and turns along the way but unfortunately it just lacked something. I should've been in tears and on the edge of my seat...but I wasn't!I found this book free. 2 1/2🌟🌟

This book is hard to put down once you read one chapter roll on the next one. Author is billiant. 😎

Wow, what another cracking read, it had be gripped to my seat throughout, it kept you guessing all the way through which I love.Brilliant start to what I can only imagine will be a brilliant series

Amazing doesn't even begin to give a fair description to this story. It starts out in such an horrific manner and progresses into terrifying throughout the entire time. It's exciting too and that is everything that makes this such a great reading experience. I'm looking forward to reading this series and I know after this one the rest will only get better!

This book grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go. The subject matter is intense, but the author handles it with grace and gentleness. While it might be a trigger, the details about the rapes, murders and human trafficking are not so descriptive as to upset the reader. I liked how strong Sapphire tried to be after being sold and rescued. She dedicated her life to saving as many people as she could. I loved the way Gideon treated her with respect and understanding. The storyline is good but like Steele, Blythe also tends to dwel in the same emotion for many many pages.

Really enjoyed it! Great hero and heroine, with lots of suspense, danger, twists and turns, and some spice thrown in. This was a fast-paced, suspenseful story with twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. I enjoyed the interaction between Gideon and Sapphire and the way he was able to build trust and get her to open up to him. They had great chemistry, both personal and professional. I liked seeing Sapphire finally warm up to Gideon and let him help her with the cases and her trauma. The suspense, mystery, and misdirect of suspects were well-done and entertaining; it definitely kept me guessing. The story background with Sapphire and her sisters was heartbreaking and disturbing and has me wanting to learn more about each of them. I’m looking forward to reading the other sisters’ HEAs. They definitely deserve them!
