Mark AveryInglorious: Conflict in the Uplands

The debate on driven grouse shooting set out clearly
Exhaustive coverage of the pros and cons of the grouse industry. Mark Avery has devoted more thought and research into the question of this subject, I suggest, than anyone who actually goes shooting grouse. And the result is that the evidence against it is damning, not just the shooting to kill aspect (and not just grouse), but the damage to the uplands in the name of ‘management’. A moor managed for grouse is not a moor managed for wildlife, how ever land managers/gamekeepers dress it up. Killing all wild animals/birds which prevent the grouse flourishing more successfully is not managing for wildlife. The sooner driven grouse shooting becomes illegal the better, for hen harriers, stoats, mountain hares- and for us!

Interesting.
Interesting, well written book about the adverse methods used to manage moorland and peatlands in the UK. Mark Avery discusses how hen harriers are being illegally killed as part of the management of moors used for grouse shooting, and how it should be addressed. A good read. Recommended if you are interested in wildlife conflicts and birding.

Please read this book!
A very important book, if you care about the wildlife of the British uplands. The slaughter of animals and birds, rare and common and the environmental damage caused in pursuit of the hobby of a tiny minority (driven grouse shooting) is a scandal.

Fascinating and shocking
I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in wildlife. Shocking content and a very convincing argument against driven grouse shooting.
