This blade is 1 of 1 Camel Bone handled Damascus kitchen knife by Olympus Blades. This knife is full tang (meaning the blade runs the full length of the handle). At this time I do not intend to create any more as I specialize in Damascus hunting knives and these were a test. There are only a few in existence. Blade Type: Chef's knife Blade Material: Damascus Handle Material: Camel Bone Blade Length: 7 3/4" Handle Length: 5 1/4" Overall Length: 13" This Damascus blade is a mixture of two different steels; 4340 and 1095. The two dissimilar metals are heated up and folded together by pounding them under tremendous pressure. Once folded roughly 500 times, the blade is heated up to a specific temperature and quenched in oil multiple times to increase the hardness rating (known as the Rockwell scale). The knife is then dipped in an acidic solution which etches the 1095 steel while the 4340 resists the acid. All Damascus blades by Olympus Blades should be cared for in a similar fashion as you would care for cast iron. After cleaning the blade, ensure it is completely dry and using a paper towel with a bit of oil on it, wipe a thin layer across the entire blade and exposed metal before storing. Always store in a protected place. Do not place in dishwasher.
