Interesting but not as useful as I thought it could be
If you have a general interest in watches - particularly Rolex - you may like this book. If you are looking for a technical handbook for authenticating a watch then do not waste your money. The book has lots of pictures covering the majority of Rolex models but I do not think all. There is no mention of vintage Cellini models for example. There is very little else. There is some info re Rolex as a company but nothing you cannot get on the WWW.Nice to have on your coffee table but but once you have looked at it, that is it.

I have an earlier edition. Basically with watch books no single book can ever be perfect. They either have lots of text and few photos or cover just a few models. If you want a book which covers thousands of models and minimal text then this is for you. Coupled with other books I found it extremely useful and have looked up many models when in doubt. Recommended.

Too many mistakes
As always, it depends what you are looking for from a watch book - this is literally 3,261 small thumbnail photographs (I assume the title is correct - I haven't counted them!!!) of a number (but by no means all) Rolex models from the first pre oysters to more or less the present day. There is virtually no explanatory text or information and as noted in the other reviews far, far too many mistakes, typos and inconsistency in description. Too many photos do not give the date and are not always in chronological order so tracking changes over the years is difficult. Also, many give irrelevant information (eg. ''movement replaced'' etc). Having said that, I personally like the book - but try and have a look before buying as it has a very specific audience.

Very good picture reference book
This book is surely the most comprehensive collection of Rolex watch photos ever. It has thousands of pictures on Rolex models both pre oyster and up to date modern models. Do not buy it for a textual reference or history of Rolex as it has very little. There is however text with each picture explaining the model. A must have for the Rolex enthusisast. Good coffee table book. What is really needed is a cheaper, more affordable Rolex reference book with correct facts and interesting points as well as a section from someone who really knows their fakes.

So so book, some errors
I bought this after a quick flick through. I should have read it properly! There are lots of errors in the text (I don't know if this is down to translation, as the author is Japanese?) such as "[The Sea-Dweller] is filled with helium gas" ??? I'm by no means a Rolex expert, but I was able to spot a lot of similar errors very quickly. A lot of the watches have comments about their condition, which is quite irrelevant in a book aiming to show small variations of models. On the plus side there are literally thousands of thumbnail photos of watch faces (unfortunately no real detail shots-the best is on the cover), it is a large format, well made book.Could do better, as teacher always used to say. Shame.
