A visual treat and the audio ain't bad either!
Having (nearly miraculously) seen Mr. Gilmour at the first Royal Albert Hall show of 2015, I was eager for him to release a video document of the Rattle That Lock shows. Filming the Pompeii dates was an obvious choice. While it is somewhat strange to see such a small audience, the backdrop adds to the occasion.Visually, on Bluray, this is a wonderful concert. The cameras don't miss a trick and everything is crisp and beautiful. The quality of the audio is first rate, but I have two small reservations. First, sadly, Dave's voice is starting to show it's age. While he certainly does not sound bad, it's clear that he is finding it harder and harder to hit the notes. In fact, I would not at all be surprised if this is the last live recording he releases. (Perhaps he'll never tour again?)Second, the Rattle That Lock material simply isn't as strong as On An Island, so Live in Pompeii will lose any comparison to his brilliant Live in Gdansk release from 2008. The Floyd classics are of course wonderful. Dave and his band take a new, interesting approach to "The Great Gig in the Sky" that I laud for its freshness, although I'm not sure it hits the target. It's hard to say what the highlight of the show is...it's all very solid, just like when I saw him in London. "A Boat Lies Waiting" followed by "Wish You Were Here" are definite emotional highlights, and "One of These Days" and the incomparable "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" are worthy versions. The set as a whole is a winner. All the bonuses are fantastic...that's really what I think. If you like Dave, there's no reason not to have this.

All you already knew and a little bit more.
What else is there to say? David Gilmour, from Pink Floyd, you know, that one member that actually kinda sorta sounds like pink floyd before roger waters took over. All you already knew and a little bit more. What you didint know? well it has some nice documentaries regarding pompei and their love for both Pink Floyd and Gilmour... or so they say. Also it contains a beautiful packaging, although i was expecting a bit more. For $10 - $20 more (compared to buying the bluray/dvd & cd individually) you are getting an extra BLU Ray with extra documentaries from gilmour's tours, a poster, some postcards and a couple small booklets in a nice sturdy box. Love the poster by the way, but i would frame it before hanging it. It also would have been nice if they included the DVD and digital download - disney/marvel/star wars boxset style - and, to be honest, The new material is kinda boring and the overall experience is not as good as "remember that night".But i think my favorite thing is how it catches the feeling of being in a gilmour concert. I went to the last date in their american tour and i gotta say is exactly how it looks in the video (except pompei instead of the madison square garden). So it was very special to me, and this boxet feels like a extension of the memory of that night. So, in conclusion. If you are a gilmour/pink floyd fan and this has to be in your collection, or if you wish to preserve a small memento of the rattle that lock tour, go for it. But if you are not in a hurry, just get the digital download, or buy the cd/dvd/bluray separately. im pretty sure it will go down in price soon enough. The boxset however, by previous experiences is more likely to disappear.

Spectacular at the Spectaculum
David Gilmour: Live at Pompeii may even surpass PULSE as the quintessential and penultimate Gilmour experience. Everyone is at the top of their game in this performance. It's great to see Guy Pratt and Steve DiStanislao again, they're amazing. Chester Kamen, Chuck Leavell and Greg Phillinganes fit in seamlessly. Bryan Chambers, Louise Clare Marshall, Lucita Jules are spot on. Joao Mello nails it. And Marc Brickman, Colin Norfield, and Andy Jackson once again work their magic in light and sound.Seeing David and the band enjoying themselves and smiling is simply precious. I couldn't help but smile myself throughout the concert. Director Gavin Elder concentrates on filming the band's performance, so we do miss out on much of that iconic Mr. Screen footage. However, seeing such great footage of the performance and the venue more than make up for it. And it would have been great to see Phil Manzanera and Jon Carin, of course. But this band doesn't disappoint.David's guitar tone is phenomenal as always, especially on 5AM. His introduction and performance of A Boat Lies Waiting tears me up. He really soars on Faces of Stone. Guy rocks One of These Days. And I am so glad they play Run Like Hell... amazing!Thank you, Mr. Gilmour and to all who worked so hard on this.A truly spectacular show filmed in 4K with PCM or DTS audio options and juicy behind-the-scenes extras. Sit back with a glass of red wine and enjoy an evening with David Gilmour!

One of the best Pink Floyd/Solo live recordings currently available
As a 30+ year Pink Floyd fan who buys up anything and everything that comes out, I have to say that this is one of the most gorgeous live recordings in my collection. The team that recorded, mixed and produced this set did an awe-inspiring job. I'd been listening to bootleg recordings from the tour for quite a while and I was blown out of my chair when I spun these discs up. Aside from the staple Floyd songs, the tracks from Dave's most recent solo album "Rattle That Lock" REALLY shine here and feel great weaved into the setlist. Of course with such a deep catalog, you're never going to get every song you want to hear but the choices here flow together very well and make for a really enjoyable listen. The packaging for this set is great - I was a little panicked when I got home and saw it sitting outside in just a bubble mailer but the box was in perfect condition when I opened it. Very nice photo booklet, postcards - 4 discs in sleeves - solid feeling box. Looks great. Very much worth going for the deluxe box for the extra money IMO.

Truly Exceptional!
The quality of the video is simply phenomenal - you feel like you’re right there. Combine that with the high quality of the performance by David Gilmour and what you have is one of most amazing concert experiences that I’ve ever seen! A truly remarkable dvd and box set! Would definitely recommend to any Pink Floyd fan, or any fan of classic rock - a must own.

Absolutely stunning Blu-Ray show - great venue, audio mixing and editing
Just for once an item posted out by Amazon arrived the day before release.I have just watched the Pompeii concert and it is absolutely stunning.Do not believe the "review trolls" giving this film 1 star and the thumbs down for quick editing and sloppy guitar playing etc.Have watched a lot of concerts on Blu-Ray by Yes, Peter Gabriel, ELP, Rush & Led Zeppelin etc and this definitely stands up as one of the best.Filmed in Pompeii across 2 nights in July 2016, the Director and Editor, Gavin Elder, has done a fantastic job.Obviously DG and band shine on through but the other star of the show is the Pompeii Amphitheatre which looks stunning when lit up.It adds a lot of character, ambience and atmosphere to the show that you wouldn't have gotten from an average rock venue. You also get the intimate feeling from a small crowd compared to his larger venues. The set list is well balanced. Tracks from Rattle That Lock stand up well against Floyd classics. I felt the only period missing was something fromhis first couple of solo albums. It would have been nice to get Blue Light or something.Good to also see the old classic Floyd circular screen brought back for back screen projections. The main thing though is the audio mix which I read from other reviews is brilliant and I cannot agree more.Clear and crisp with plenty of depth.Blu-Ray 1Concert - Pompeii - 2hrs 32 minDocumentary - Pompeii Then And Now - 7minBlu-Ray 2Concert - South America 2015 - 35minConcert - Wroclaw 2016 - 29minDocumentary - Europe 2015 - 12minDocumentary - South America 2015 - 14minDocumentary - North America 2016 - 15minDocumentary - Europe 2016 - 16minDocumentary - Wider Horizons - 1hr 11minCDs 1 & 2 - Complete Pompeii ConcertIn closing, I feel the only 2 flaws were the price which I paid £43.96 including postage at the time it first appeared on Amazon back in July.I feel it should have been a few quid cheaper but I can't really complain. 2 Blu-Rays and 2 CDs. Saying that you do get a booklet and some postcards. You decide. The other thing is it would've been nice to get more footage from the other shows.I know his voice was strained a bit on the Wroclaw 2016 (with orchestra) show but why not add a complete concert say from South America since it was filmed? An interesting note is I showed it to my die-hard, old school, Floyd mate, Mr Furious, who is highly critical of everything. He is never happy.Once we finished watching it I asked for his thoughts. "Pretty good" said Furious. A first. No complaints from him.Can definitely recommend this to all solo Gilmour and Floyd fans. Nice to see a bit of a line up change also.Brilliant show, set list, lighting playing and production.

Great quality, slight rip off price mind you
This is pricey probably at least a tenner too pricey when you compare similar releases from other artists, but you do get a quality product. The sound is stunning quality for a concert and the visuals match.I saw no artefact in my bluray copy.Given the age of the man, his voice still sounds superb.Yes, of course you miss Rick Wright but the band is excellent. If you are Pink Floyd/ DG fan the deluxe version is probably worth seeking out purely for the quality of the footage. It stands up there with DG`s other live releases in recent years.

Unbeatable value in this box set
What can I say? This deluxe pack is more than worth the price! 2 x CDs containing the entire concert, a Blu-Ray disk with the concert in brilliantly shot footage and yet another disk with more live stuff, plus documentaries AND the superb BBC "Wider Horizons" documentary too. Then there is a small hardback book of photographs, a folded mini-poster and a set of postcards as well as a CD type inlay booklet with track/musician details. The whole package is an object lesson in how a deluxe edition SHOULD look and something that other artists should aspire to!

FANTASTIC
Decided to purchase the full concert, after watching edited highlights on the bbc. I have to say that David is fantastic, and still sounds & plays superbly at 70. He has a superb band behind him, & the picture & sound quality are both excellent. As a result of him playing a few tracks from his current album (Rattle That Lock), I have since ordered that, too. The box set obviously includes the cd version, a disc of bonus features, including separate concert footage from two other concerts, various short tour footage, an extensive 71 minute interview with Alan Yentob, 4 postcards, the tour poster & a hard cover book of a few stills from the tour. All in all, I am delighted with my purchase & DG still rocks.Post Review comment: After purchasing this only last week, Amazon have now reduced the price by over £3.50 - have overpaid, I feel, thanks amazon.

Outstanding.
Outstanding concert and blu ray. Good selection of songs, although would have liked the rest of Dark Side for it to be perfect. Great to see David and his outstanding band enjoying themselves. Good documentaries showing behind the scenes of the tours and iconic locations. Wonderful lightshow, reminiscent of Pink Floyd at their best. For me, David Gilmour carries the torch for Pink Floyd, sorry Roger.
