Works with Yamaha PSR-175

We have an older Yamaha PSR-175 keyboard that has IN/OUT MIDI connections. We followed the instructions included with this adapter (ex: connect the IN adapter to the OUT port on the keyboard) and connected to a computer and it worked. The MIDI application was able to recognize input from the piano and also playback MIDI data from the computer on the piano. This was connected to a Windows 11 PC and was plug-n-play.

Great way to make a modern PC play MIDI back through a MIDI sound module!

There are, of course, plenty of people who will need this adapter to connect non-USB MIDI devices to their computer for the purposes of input, but I bought this specifically because I wanted *output*, and it performs the job wonderfully. In my particular case, I wanted some old-school games that were using my PC's built-in MIDI player to instead play through my Roland SC-55 mkII, and I was able to get it up and running in no time flat.Step 1: Make sure your PC and your MIDI sound module are turned on.Step 2: Plug the OUT plug on the adapter into the MIDI IN port on the sound module and the IN plug to the MIDI OUT port. This is pretty common practice for MIDI devices, and the bundled instructions also tell you to do this, but this is also where people seem to get turned around the most.Step 3: Plug the USB end of the adapter in to your computer.Step 4: Use a freeware program like MidiMapper by CoolSoft to change your default MIDI device to USB Midi Device.Step 5: That's it! Optionally, if you want the MIDI sounds from the module to play back through your computer's audio and not through dedicated speakers, you can use an aux cable on the module's output jack to plug in to your computer's Line In 3.5mm jack. If your computer only has a headphone jack, it might support switching the headphone jack to a Line In jack, such as via Realtek Audio Console.)I'm really pleased with how easy to use this was, as well as how nice the device looks (looks aren't important, but they are appreciated). I'll update my review if this changes, but right now, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Excellent price, works perfectly

Our son is getting into electronic music and a teacher suggested he work with GarageBand. We have an old Yamaha keyboard with MIDI ports and decided that this was the cheapest way to connect the keyboard to the computer. At less than $20, it seems like a reasonable purchase even if some later time he ends up wanting a full-fledged audio interface. We hooked up the MIDI cables to the keyboard (out to in and in to out, as it instructs), hooked up the USB to our older (High Sierra) Mac, turned on the keyboard, started GarageBand, and it just worked. No issues at all.It seems sturdy, and it is reasonably attractive except the LEDs are exceptionally bright... I covered them with a piece of electical tape. I can't imagine I'll ever have a need to see the LEDs unless something breaks. I think these bright LEDs are a minor flaw, and as far as I can see they are the only minor flaw.If you want to connect a MIDI-capable electronic keyboard to a computer, and aren't ready to invest in an "audio interface" (or even wanting to understand what that means), then I think this is the right product to buy.

Device short lived but seller graciously stands by it's customers and products

We purchased this for the music program at our church, in order to run a midi Lowry organ through a laptop. We received it in August and it worked absolutely GREAT. I recommend reading and holding onto the installation cards and Customer service cards that came with the device, and following the directions exactly. We had music for services and rehearsals every week since installing it. But then in November it stopped working altogether. We reattached everything as directed. We tried different USB ports and a different laptop altogether. We even uninstalled the software that controlled the midi files thinking it might help but nothing. After some research, this is common apparently with these devices.Reached out to customer service and they reached out to us and helped us troubleshoot problem. Turns out the device may have had a malfunction. Seller graciously apologized for any issues and is resending a new device at no charge. We depend on the organ and the connection for our services.I guess if your looking for something short term this is great, but would recommend a backup if you depend solely on the device. Technology is what it is.

Excellent product, best customer service EVER!

I get a LOT of electronics parts, cables and adapters from Amazon but rarely write reviews. I'm compelled to do this one based on the excellent exchange I have just had with the seller. I build experimental instruments, and was having a connectivity issue with this cable, which is odd since I have never had any problems with this product and run it constantly on 3 devices and intermittently on 3 more. A real head scratcher. The short story is the cable performs flawlessly when connected to any midi device with that is properly wired to usb midi jack pins 2,4 and 5. I had a couple of devices that weren't but worked with another midi cable so my first thought was the cable was bad. I contacted the seller, who responded immediately with a quick connection instruction and also user tips from another user that was utilizing at least part of the same type of signal chain I was attempting. He also offered on the spot to replace or refund the cable cost. This made me think he was absolutely confident in his product, and since I have a bunch of them I was too, so assumed user error on my part or something else was going on. I tested the cable on another device that runs the same cable, and of course it worked perfectly. So now we know the device is the issue and not the cable. Subsequent investigation identified the problem, I corrected it, and now the is sonic joy. I contacted the seller, who again responded immediately and was so gracious! A great experience. Highly recommend the product and seller - he sets a standard for customer service that is the best I've encountered in 20 years of Amazon exchanges!
