These ferocious-looking creatures eat a wide variety of insects, including beetles, caterpillars, grubs, aphids, grass-hoppers, crickets and many more. And since they don't fly, they stay right in the area where they are released. Praying Mantis are completely harmless to people, pets, and the environment. In fact, they are so much fun that sometimes people buy them for pets. Each egg case, about the size of a ping pong ball, contains about 200 eggs, which hatch when the weather becomes warm. Includes three egg cases. Restricted State: Hawaii

Worked
Ordered a pack of these a week ago and saw the first mantis sitting on a branch not far from the sack this morning. Contrary to the instructions, I can definitely tell that the sack is now empty - it is now kind of flaky and has several tiny openings. The other two from the same package are still solidly "shut", and I am pretty sure they have not hatched. In regards to people not seeing any mantis, unless you are really lucky and just happened to glance at one by chance (as I did this morning), don't expect to see them. This is an ambush predator that blends into the environment very well and will stay absolutely still for hours unless you literally about to touch it. If you really want to have a visual proof, place the sack in a jar, an insect box, or another controlled environment and then let them go once you confirmed their presence.

Don't buy them, they do not hatch
In early January, I bought these as the insect place I usually buy from (Everything Insects) did not have any egg cases yet. When I got them, they looked old. I went ahead and tried to hatch them as I did the other I got from another place last year. They didn't hatch. Last month Everything Insects got them in stock and sent me an email. I bought three egg cases from them and when they arrived, you could immediately tell the difference in the appearance of the egg cases from the two different places. I put the new ones in the same mantis hatching system with the old ones and the new ones are starting to hatch. Last year all three cases I got hatched. I think the egg cases I got from Amazon are just old and dead. Unfortunately they have a no return policy on them but I am still going to call Amazon so hopefully it won't be the whole $15 down the drain. If you need preying mantis egg cases then I suggest going to Everything Insect.

Got what I paid for
I wasn't sure what to expect here, but overall it was a positive purchase. The three egg sacks arrived in a padded envelope with a paper about the best way to set them up for hatching. After several days I got worried but now, six weeks later I saw a ton of little praying mantis crawling around. What happened since then I don't really know, but I can't blame the company if they don't survive after hatching, so I guess I got what I paid for. Next time I might hatch them in a aquarium and place them exactly where I want them after hatching, but I wouldn't have any issues with purchasing from this company again.

Joy
The owner Ricky is totally focused on customer service and cool. Ricky turned what could have been a negative situation into a very positive one by emailing me daily until my problem with my order as resolved and even went so far as to send additional product to make up for my dismay over the issue. And that's all people really want; a genuine caring experience with other people, and he definately provided that. My first mantids came out of their egg sac this morning and it was literally a moment of joy after waiting and watching for weeks. I would certainly purchase other items from Ricky and his company because they demonstrated such commitment to me and my order when things went wrong and ultimately endeared me to them more than I would have ever been had all been just a nameless, faceless transaction to start. In the end, alls well that ends well and I couldn't be happier now with owner, company and product. Steven

Disappointed
Mantids never hatched, after waiting over 8 weeks. (Ordered in April. It is now September) This was part of my son's birthday gift. We love to watch and study insects and were really looking forward to having little mantids roaming our yard. We never bothered with a refund due to other reviews stating refund problems. Thanks for nothing. :(

Praying Mantis Egg Cases
Unfortunately, these were ordered and shipped to another family member. I did not get the opportunity to see or work with the product. Because of this I have given a three-star rating but would order again and have shipped to myself.
