Hawkins Contura 5 Liters Aluminum Pressure Cooker

This little 2qt 'contura' is just darling, a nice manageable size for a smaller person/ single person- and it does work.I do have serious doubts that it is stainless steel through and through, I believe that the inside is aluminum, which performs better as a pressure cooker body material, anyway. I am just going to 'let go' of my fears of getting aluminum in my food from the pressure cooker, and I will simply refrain from putting strongly acidic foods in it (tomatoes/citrus, etc) I will also immersion blend in another container, to prevent getting fine shavings of aluminum in the food.The only other issue is getting the lid on (in). It has been a challenge- but since I received my cooker 4 days ago, I've used it 3 times (including the initial straight water with lemon juice/vinegar run, so I can put the lid on/in, it's just tricky.It seems easier if you basically let it fall in/on.I actually like the whistle/hiss. Makes cooking your beans a little more of an adventure. Also, if you do not fill more than 1/2 way the contura doesn't seem to splatter food out with the whistling. And--it whistles to urge you to turn down the flame. I can cook pinto beans on the absolutely lowest gas setting my range is capable of. If you want to 'be green' you can't beat that.So far I have made rice pudding- it was OK, but I think rice pudding would cook better at lower temps, so I will try that stove-top next time. The NM pinto beans with a 1/2 an onion (you don't have to chop the onion up- it falls apart naturally during the 60-or so minute cooking time)and a little vegetable oil turned out tender and tasty. Next I will make a nice dal/soup- just throw everything in, curry powder/onions/jalapenos/peeled knob of ginger/lentils/water/salt/veg oil, stir and cook ~20-30", then at the end throw in a whole rough chopped bunch of cilantro and immersion blend it. You cannot beat a nice soup like that on a cold day in NM.

I wanted a pressure cooker for our small family of 3. It is very handy. I cook all my dals,curries and beans in it and it gets done in a jiffy. I wanted to stop buying canned beans that contain a whole lot of sodium. Now I can buy legumes that are free of preservatives and cook them in my cooker. I also make soup and stews in it that take minimum time and are tastier and more wholesome than when I cooked them in a pan. The only drawback is that it is not stain proof, the food coloring like turmeric leaves a stain that does not wash off. Otherwise an excellent and reliable product!!!

Simple and easy to use. thin gasket bu seals well.Nice and flat base to quickly heat up on US style coil heating system or stoves.Easy to wash and handling is easy. Included a user manual and booklet with different recipes.3.5 Lit on a flat base is awesome..actually looks better and bigger.Top quality and nice packaging. item arrived on time. supplier was good.

Great Product. Perfect size to cook food for 2 people. Very energy efficient. The only thing I am expecting the makers of the cooker is to make it induction compatible. But otherwise, its a great pressure cooker, cooks food in 2-5 minutes. Retains the nutrition inside. Pressure cooker pressure indicator works good. But when you cook I would suggest people to check cooking time for individual recepie. It works best when you use this cooker on low to medium heat.

One of the best decisions of my life!I was averse to buying a pressure cooker as I have always been a little scared of them exploding (irrational fear).My mom recommended this one over the electronic cookers by the likes of Aroma, and she was so right!The food is cooked much more evenly and tastes so much better!Cooking brown rice is a breeze and gets done in as low as 5-10 minutes (It takes about 45 minutes in an Aroma rice cooker).Cooking meats and lentils is also super easy.

Very bad quality product and it turns into black in color. It's safely valve doesn't work. When I applied for refund the seller did not return my money back and was behaving very rudely. Do not buy it

Two times in this period the safety valve got burst. i seriously wonder the quality of material supplied to meIt can be risky to my lifeSuprising inferior quality products is still sold in name of HAWKINS.I need a replacement asap!

This is perfect cooker for one or two person i use it daily for vegetables,khichdi etc. comes out nice no spoiling kitchen and running smoothly.

Delivery and packaging as per amazon standards, great!So far cookers performing good, enough for cookingcooking for 2-3 people, excess water doesn't come out like prestige cookers.Only one downside, the lid of cooker is very light, feels cheap.

The cooker is not having an induction base as described on the website. Please do not buy this for induction stove use. Also takes a lot of time to make the delivery. Mine took around two weeks. Amazon should take strict action against such falsified data being shared.

Orders with expectation that what could be wrong in ordering Hawkins cooker.In last one month I have replaced the safety valve five times. It is so dangerous that we don't know when its going to burst out. Even replacing the valve with original Hawkins it hardly work for 2 continuous days.No sure what to do with it.Please respond.
