Finally a device that can allow my smart home to talk to my sub gig fan. Love it

planned to use with Home Assistant to link multiple technologies together, using Lutron Radio RA2 as a trigger for some wireless art lighting and also trigger fans based on temperature / humidity. It was a little wonky getting it setup initially, but once the app is installed it works well. there is decent documentation on integrating this with Home Assistant and as a technology bridge, it also works well - response time is very fast, and the included temp/humidity sensor is relatively accurate. The wireless frequencies this device works with are hidden in the details... It doesn't seem to respond to my my ceiling fans remotes (and those fall into a range just under 315 MHz), hence Im exploring an alternative device.All said, Im impressed with the BroadLink - its relatively simple to setup, and snappy in the response. Ive only used it for RF remotes, however its not quite as robust in the 315 +- MHz range as my need require. For a device under $50 its not bad though.

I recently got the RM 4 Pro it's a great little device I got it mostly because I have a few RF devices I wanted to control and some older electronics that use IR.This a bit of a rant but also my honest experience with it.I want to point out the ones that complained at 2.4ghz and returned I'll circle back to that because I almost gave up. (almost)The setup at first was driving me insane why it wouldn't connect.My router has multiband and it's set to Smart connect meaning it routes the devices to the best possible connection for that device be it 5ghz, 2.4ghz, or wif8 6 for newer devices.The thing is The RM 4 Pro and from what I read the others have the same issue only works on the 2.4ghz band.If Broadlink would upgrade to allow smart connect in their devices this would be a perfect device but right now it's not.What I had to was split my bands up so I had 2.4ghz on it's on SSIDI then tried to connect the RM 4 Pro and it worked right away.After it was connected to my networkI reverted my wifi to smart connect, the key that i found that it keeps the broad link connected to the network even after I enabled all my bands back is to have the same SSID that you used in 2.4ghz when setting it up when you switch it back to multi-band mode.I know that some users were complaining about turning of 5ghz you don't have to long term just for the setup once it's setup with the same SSID it will stay connected to the network.At least that is the case with mine, Once my network was back to how I liked it I went ahead and set up some devices with zero issues.So that is why I'm giving it 4/5 because of that one flaw it has. I understand why they use 2.4ghz because it has the best range but at the same time, all they need to do is allow it to connect in smart mode type router that most of them are now. It would be less of a headache for your users and reduce frustration and returnsOverall I'm glad I didn't give in to my frustrations and kept it.It has a nice range surprisingly good range without repeaters.

This works with the simple RF remote for my move projector screen.Alexa can only do on off of any devices you add. So I added the projector screen twice as a simple wall switch.Device 1On lowers itOff stops lowering itDevice 2On raises itOff stops raising it.The infrared worked great to turn on the projector. I have not done anything more advanced than that.It did not work to mimic my RF bed control or RF window shades.

I had bought the Mini version during Black Friday last year and it was working for one of my remotes. I wanted to add my Roku Streaming Stick, but I was told by Broadlink tech support that I needed the RM4. I ordered it on Prime Day and set about setting it up. It has frankly been a nightmare. I follow the instructions on the app and it fails to connect. I tried both the AP and Smart setup. No joy. After several frustrating emails with the Broadlink tech support, I did as instructed - delete all devices found in the Broadlink app and try again. So I deleted my soundbar remote and the Mini and tried again. Not only did the RM4 not connect but the Mini is not connecting as well. (This may be due to the device not being reset properly but I was guessing when I tried to do it. It appears that is a secret not to found anywhere in English.) The email cites many of the same issues that low-end tech companies use: your router is dual-band and you use special characters in the network name and/or password. I was asked to set up my cell as a WiFi hotspot for the RM4 and use another cell to run the app. I will be using an iPod Touch. I will use a dummy network name and password to eliminate the boogey man of the special characters. (Funny the Broadlink AP name has two underscores and my network's name has one.) I am unsure as to what will be accomplished if it works because I am not going to change my configurations of the networks and all connected devices for this one device. I think they are extending straws that I am supposed to grasp. Stay tuned.2021-07-09 There has been no progress on this issue. While I could set up a connection using my android phone as a AP and my iPod as the programming device, it means only that the app works when made simple. I am not going to change network to 'broadlinksux' with a password of 'thisisstupid' just because it works. When I purchased my Mini last year, the app worked with my network environment, which hasn't changed. I am sure that I have updated my Broadlink app on both my devices in the intervening nine months. Whatever they did to their software hosed this new device as well as the previous one I bought. I have until 7/25 to return this product. I am giving the manufacturer until 7/20 to resolve this issue.2021-07-23 I gave BL a few more days to help. They dropped the ball big time. They kept telling me to do the same thing. I did a setup between a cellphone hotspot and the RM4 Pro. That worked because my network name and password didn't have special characters. The network name was a NetBIOS compliant one. My passwords for the BL app and the BL website have special characters. Also, the RM4's AP name has special characters. But my functional network of 19 years, which has items from many different manufacturers working happily, will have to change to fit BL's ideal. I think not. This experience has been very frustrating.Take my advice, avoid BL if your WiFi router is set up slightly more complicated that the defaults of the manufacturer.
