My cat likes anything but what is made for her. I put the mat on floor by the heater thinking she go to it-nope! I left the mat on the floor for a week and finally she slept on it. She is warm and comfortable.

My cats love them... but I don't know about the self-heating part. I think its just a regular little mat lol.

14 year old Misty the Cat tore her ACL at the beginning of October. Since surgery wasn't an option I was looking for ways of keeping her happy and comfortable. Great Dane sized kennel when we're gone: check. Joint medicine: check. But it's getting to be winter and I am concerned about it being cold in her kennel even though it's up in our bedroom and I don't want her healing ligaments to be sore. That's when I started thinking something heated would be nice. I wouldn't dare leave an electric heating pad in her space without supervision. That's when I discovered that some genius had created thermal cat mats that work with an animal's own body heat. Brilliant. After researching the various options I went with this one. Sure it makes a crinkly noise. She wasn't all that sure about it the first few days, but she got used to it. The first night I got it I leaned against it while sitting in bed. I was delightfully cozy. I'm kind of thinking of getting one and making a reusable heating pad that's similar to those Thermaheat pads because it was that warm. I put a towel over the mat just because I think Misty the Cat was too warm! Now she goes and hangs out on her mat just for the fun of it. All in all, I am extremely happy with this and the shipping was reasonably quick. :)

I bought these for my cats during winter. I place them in their houses with a heating disc under the self heating pad. I find that doing this allows some extra heat to keep my cat warm on exceptionally cold nights. Prior to using the heating disc in combination with the self warming pad I just used the self heating pad and my cats did very well with it. At that time I only had one outside cat and she doesn't like being inside however on very cold nights like below 32 degrees I would bring her in even though she wasn't very happy about it. I really can tell these self heating pads amplify body heat because I sat my hand on it for a couple minutes to ensure it would really work and it does! My cats also love them to lay on so if my cats are happy I'm happy. Oh and I machine wash mine on gentle and in emergency situations (throw up on one of them in the middle of a cold night when they are needed right then) I also dry them on low heat in the dryer. So far the dryer hasn't hurt them at all. These really are a must have for pet owners.

For the past 18 years, I've been feeding a population of feral (wild) cats on my porch every day. The population starts when owners dump their cats in the wild because they don't want to care for them anymore. Horrible. Subsequently, these animals have a very hard life with all the adversities they face every day ... food, water, shelter, predators, road traffic, etc. This year, to make their lives a little easier, I decided to enclose my front porch with heavy plastic sheeting, framed to withstand the harsh winter winds. I had been using old style warming discs, but they had to be reheated daily, and that was a chore. When I saw the Slumber Thermal Mat and read the excellent reviews, I decided to give it a try. When the 4 mats arrived, I placed my hand on the backside of the mat and felt a warming feeling almost instantly. I realized that it actually did retain heat as advertised. So, now 10 cats are coming to my enclosed porch, protected from the cold winter winds, resting safely and comfortably on their fabulous, new warming mats, situated on 4 large, cushioned patio chairs. I'm sure in combination with the other benefits I have been able to give them, the warming mats will help to extend their lives immeasurably. Excellent product ... thank you!

Our new kitten took to this mat pretty quick, the first time we brought her home from the adoption agency. She wanted to squeeze on top of a tool box on a shelf, but I calmly pulled her out and set her on top of this mat, and she's always used it as her bed ever since. So I'd say she loves it very much, and it gives me assurance that she'll be cuddled up and warm in the coming winter months.The item is pretty big for a standard cat carrier, so it'll go up the sides if you stuff it in a carrier, but not so much that it will block the upper air slots, so it's not a problem.The only thing was that I didn't care about the foil-like stuffing much -- with the dry cold weather here, it tends to accumulate some static. I accidentally gave our kitty quite a zap on her nose when I tried to touch her, and it gave her quite a scare. She's fine now, but I make sure I dis-charge myself before I touch her while she's on her mat.

When I ordered this product I was looking for something to help keep my father's cats warm during the winter. He has three semi-strays that have wandered into his yard and decided to stay. They hate being inside overnight or for any extended amount of time. However, they do like being in the sun room when it gets cold. Because of this I was hoping to find something that would keep them extra warm during the winter and nights.I decided on this product because the reviews made it seem usable outdoors and because it did not require a plug-in cord to warm the cats.We received the mat almost two months ago and it has been used daily since! Three average sized (8-10 lbs) cats pile onto the blanket every night as well as during any temperature drops during the day. It keeps them very warm. It is a bit thin however we placed it on top of a non-thermal blanket that they already had and it does just fine. The slight crinkle doesn't seem to bother any of them.I would definitely recommend this product! It's great for multiple cats and since it is cordless it is very easy to move around or keep in an enclose space.
