I really enjoy breadth of topics in jurisprudence surveyed by this text and the format of explaining different theories and theorists followed by well selected extracts, but this edition is riddled with distracting typos and, much more seriously, inaccurate footnotes. The cross-referencing of footnotes appears not to have been properly updated for this edition. For example, p605 footnote 95 refers to Dworkin's "Law's Empire, p188". Footnote 99 reads "On this see above, para.6-002" (which is an extract from Rawls). Footnote 101 reads "Above, n99, 193". Footnote 101 cannot possibly intend to refer to n99, but is supposed to refer to n95. This would be only a minor problem, but footnotes 101-108 and 111-113 all continue the error by saying "Above, n99, (page)". In fact, nn111-113 are supposed to refer to n109, which is neither Dworkin nor Rawls, but an article by Perry. This is a recurring problem throughout the volume that renders it near useless for following up on references to primary sources or academic literature. Considering the importance of good citations in any academic field, and the severity with which students are (rightly) penalised for inadequate citations, I find it unacceptable that the sloppy editing has made it so difficult for readers to identify sources. I hope that the publisher is fixing this, and I wish I could get my copy replaced when a corrected print run is released.
