Keeps with the genre
Like many stories that demand a leap of faith to jump into the story, daughter of the god-king relies on the reader's acceptance of a complex story, and a bit of historic knowledge. It is a genre novel; an Egyptian dig, visitors at night, trips on the Nile, disappeared parents, Napolean in Elba, and wealth. You have a romance, mysterious strangers who all know more than they share, and a young heroine, who is just too accepting of some really impossible twists. I still finished it. A beach book for a sensitive reader who wants a happy ending - love over death.

Super Good Read
This is a great read – a dauntless young heroine and her stouthearted companion set out for the adventure of a lifetime. I was ready for another book set in Egypt, being a devoted Elizabeth Peters fan, and this filled the bill. I loved the sense of humor throughout the book, and laughed out loud a couple of times at some of Hattie’s (short for Hathor) thoughts. I do hope there is a sequel; it would be interesting to find out how she gets along with “the sister”. I love Anne Cleeland’s New Scotland Yard series, and was very glad to find more books written by her. She is certainly a very versatile author!

Chick Lit with Historical Edge
Hattie is determined to leave her boring life in England behind. The journey she begins though is much more than she ever would have bargained for. This is a bit more chick-lit than historical fiction, but I did like the historical elements as it differentiated it from many other chick-lit books I've read. There was a bit more to the character of Hattie than the girls who usually star in chick-lit books. I constantly found myself laughing out loud at her witty liners throughout the book. And there was definitely sparks flying off the page between Hattie and her love interest. Sometimes relationships in a book fall a bit flat, but trust me, there is tons of chemistry here. Not a book if looking for a historical fiction novel, as the history is just background to the love story. But a very fun and enjoyable read.

A goof read ...
Very entertaining although it was a little slow in spots, and could have benefitted from some editing that kept the pace more even. Made me laugh from time to time and I was interested in the characters. Can't ask for much more than that. Reminded me a little of the Amelia Peabody books, although this is a one-off and set just after the Napoleonic Wars. Good read.

Tremendous !!!
I read this book so fast ( you can't put it down !) - then I read Tainted Angel and came right back and read this one again, only slower so I could savor it even more ! The characters are great and the story is hopping. You definitely have to pay attention! If you' re a fan of Deanna Rayborn you should check this author out. Adventure, comedy and a great romance - cannot be beat !! I would recommend to everyone !!😁😁😁

An enjoyable escape with another remarkable heroine.
I read Ms. Cleeland's two historical romances while waiting for the fourth installment of her New Scotland Yard series. I was not disappointed. Daughter of the God-King was full of plot twists and tangles. Readers must pay attention to follow all of the action. Sometimes I felt like I was reading a more adult version of a Georgette Heyer romance crossed with a Christie mystery and I thoroughly enjoyed the escape into another world! I hope that there are more adventures.

Good Historical with Great Characters
Underrated writer, excellent historical fiction with a lot to enjoy. The characters are memorable and the setting fascinating. I love learning what I can from a novel like this and using the internet to look up references for things I want to know better. Anne Cleeland is a very good writer and I wish she were better known. Her new mystery series is great, but I also want more historicals!

Wonderful Story.
A delightful story full or original characters, history, quicky what-ifs, and maybe the best wedding evah. Wait, I might have said that about other Cleeland weddings, because while a very small part of her books, they are usually very funny.

No one is what they seem...
"Hattie Blackhouse was aware that she had - regrettably - something of a temper, and that this trait often led to impetuous decisions that were not always thought out in a rational manner." This is the opening line of this book and indeed sums up Miss Blackhouse.I found this book a bit of mix between a female Indiana Jones adventure and a Miss Marples mystery...no one is what they seem. One has to suspend belief that an 18 year old sheltered female from the wilds of Cornwall, England would embark with only her companion, to search for her renowned scholar parents in Paris to Egypt as Napolean is exiled to Elba. I was indeed surprised by what she found out!Miss Blackhouse is a very perceptive young lady with a no-nonsense manner and quick wit who can sketch a character very quickly. There is a romantic interest, but for me, I didn't see the spark or sizzle for this couple...it fell flat. Her companion, Bing, was an excellent foil for her and I enjoyed her character most of all.
