This book was so helpful. I would not have been able to finish my thesis without it. There are a few things that have changed with some of the functions in the different packages since it was published but it is still applicable. I only worked through some of the exercises using the provided data but found them very helpful. I mostly used the provided instructions on my own data and found the instructions very transferable. The only thing that would have made it even better is further interpretations and discussions about the meaning of the outputs/results.

Very good reference book

This book has what I was looking for supporting my community ecology class and very good examples in R language on how to analyze my data. It is a very good reference book!

Great crash course in community ecology analyses

Terrific overview of community ecology concepts and how to perform important analyses using R (more specifically, the "vegan" package). My main complaint is that while the cover mentions Excel---and indeed there are many examples of how to do calculations using a spreadsheet---we inevitably reach a point where Excel is too cumbersome to use for certain complicated analyses. Since R is free anyway, why bother to include so many Excel examples?

Really good book

So useful, walks you through different types of analyses for ecological data, why to do them and how to do them. Used it for analysing microbial ecology data and was just what I needed, especially being a relative novice in R.

Four Stars

Great book.

Low printing quality

The book (or my copy) has an extremely low printing quality. Some paragraphs are difficult to read although not impossible.

Great book for biologists with little experience in statistics!

This is the second book by Mark Gardener which I read and they both cleared many things up for me. Mark Gardener has a very clear and illustrative style of writing.
