They both test for voltage presence the same way, but the 1ac has an audible alert function which the 2ac does not have.

you could try using a toner kit. i think the proper term is wire tracer. the wand/probe can detect weak signals if you turn up the sensitivity. with some practice, you could use it to find ac wires behind drywall.
