A very solid feel to this palette. I especially like the 4 deep mixing wells on one side and the large flat mixing area on the other. I gave the enameled mixing surfaces a good preliminary scrub using a mild abrasive cleaner like 'Nanoscrub' and the typical beading encountered on most palettes was virtually eliminated. I have found that the rails holding the full pans in place are not up to the task. The pans are loose when dipping my brush into them. I use a bit of blu-tack adhesive putty to secure each one in its place.

This is a good strong palette that will take a beating, much more so than the less expensive ones made from thinner metal. The mixing areas inside the lid are excellent in size, but the finish material leaves to be desired. It is not as smooth on the inside (the most important part!!) as it is outside -If they are concerned with cost, i would invert the finishes. The other downside in terms of practicality is in regards to the mixing tray that folds out - it has the same fault as some of the cheap palettes where the rim around it is not continuous so if you tilt the palette from total horizontal, you will get paint on yourself or your paper unintentionally making a mess! The material on the fold out is marginally smoother than on the lid but will still get all stained over time as it is not glossy. Unlike the other reviewer, i had no issues adding an additional row of 8 pans in the middle - just lift the bars that secure the pans that came with the palette, add the other palettes snd replace the bars for a total of 24 secured pans - no magnets were needed on mine. I will post some pictures tomorrow. I also had no issues with the metal rod that holds the mixing tray and lid coming off, as some mentioned on the other size palettes. Last, but not a deal breaker for me, this palette was advertised as the larger 24+12 palette on the title and description, but they shipped the 16+8, which ironically was the one i prefer, but a bit of false advertzing! Same goes for the water containers - it said to come with 2 water containers but mine came with none. I bought the small 8+4 palette from the same seller previously and that came with the advertized containers an a couple of brushes, athough the brushes are so low quality you might just put them on the kids stash - little kids that is! I would just skip the brushes if i were the seller - anyone buying this specific palette is likely going to invest on a decent brush(es) anyway. I see this palette has gone up $10 since i purchased it 2 weeks ago, and the 24+12 size is now a whoppog $90. I will not pass judgement on whether they are worth it or not as people have different reasons for buying things, but if you are purely thinking about functionality, there are very nice metal palettes at Amazon, smaller and larger for a fraction of the cost ( granted that they are made in China, where these are made in USA, if it matters to you).

This is a quality tin; however, the pans did not hold up well when I placed it in my kit bag. When I opened the tin, the watercolors shifted and made a mess.

This palette is of heavier construction than most. Durable. Well proportioned. Pricey, but the best I've found.

Holds 12 full pans, 24 half pans, or a mix of both half and full pans. Someone posted that they could not change the pans for others. That is not true, you can easily change the pans. You have to use 2 half pans in place of 1 full pan. The tray is divided into 12 sections each section will hold 1 full pan or 2 half pans.The palette came with 12 empty full pans. I think most brands of pan will fit, I have used Schmineke (sp?), and WhiteNights full pans, and Winsor Newton and Schmineke (sp?) and Sennelier half pans in it.The flat palette flap has a mat white finish, the wells have a glossy finish.Peace

The lid does not shut firmly, opens way to easily. Therefore I would not travel with this palatte. Otherwise pretty well made , great size.

I love the feel of these boxes. They're nice and sturdy without being overly heavy. I'm tempted to buy another, but I have no need for it at the moment.

I love Whiskey Painter's palettes especially the pan locking system and I assumed that the Large Palette allowed for more pans to be placed securely in the center section like all the others. Unfortunately this palette's center area is too large to secure any additional pans.I was disapointed. It is an expensive palette to not be able to expand the pans it holds. I sent a message to the seller about this problem, but never heard back.I have since applied heavy magnetic tape to additional pans and placed in the middle section and they are working okay. I would still perfer them to be able to be locked down by the metal locks as on the outer pans. I changed my rating to four stars because except for this one problem it is a good palette. I just wish they would mak a large palette that would correct this one thing. I would buy one.
