Old Man's Cave: A Graphic Novel (BONE #6)

This series has been my childhood mystery for years. I played the 1 game they made but It was only a quarter of the story. My library never had these books and now I can finally read them. This is a great series and the book came in amazing quality. I was a bit nervous at first because of the warning the seller says about it might having markings and what not. Take the risk and if it's not as advertised just return it :) it just depends how much that book has been read.

We got Volumes 1-5 at a comic shop in Albuquerque, just to test the series. Very good series, with mixtures of epic fantasy and humor. In this volume, most of the characters head for Old Man's Cave, both as a refuge from the rat creatures and to learn the origins of the old kingdom and the Lord of the Locusts. Phoney is ultimately captured by the Hooded One, and the revelation of who this sinister character is disturbing. Things are getting more grim in the storytelling, but there's still some humor to spice things up, such as the revelation of the reason Phoney is supposed to be a threat to the forces of the Lord of the Locusts. Definitely take the adventure with these characters!

Once you start reading about the Bone cousins and their troubles, you feel as though you are a part of the action and have to follow them to the end as they meet more fantastic characters. Every person, animal, and creature adds to the adventure of the Bone cousins as they try to make a new life for themselves and uncover secrets about other characters past which will impact their future. The book act is vibrant with lots of details to the characters (human and other) as well as they scenery around them.

My 9 year old loves this series. Written in a comic form, he devoured these books within a few weeks. I kept having to buy the next one and then we donated them to his teacher's library so his friends could read. Bones is a creature who lives with his cousins and goes on adventures with his cousins. He even read them out of sequence then went back and read in order again. Great books.

I can't tell you how many people I have recommended Bone to. Every time I am in a comic book store and see a mother and a youngster looking for something to break into in the comic scene. The first thing that comes to mind is Bone. It's a great all ages book, it's well written and your kids will love it. With all the "adult" stuff out there... you really need to be cautious what your children are reading. Bone is quality and safe. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Reason for Reading: next in the seriesWe are right in the middle of all the action with this volume. The battle has started and everyone steps up to the plate and shows their mettle. Fone and Smiley are still lost in the woods from the previous book until they meet up with Thorn and continue the journey with her. Gran'ma Ben has called everyone together at Old Man's Cave where they can put up a united stand against the rat creatures under the leadership of the Hooded One, whose identity we learn in this book. Once again all the characters from the previous volumes are together again, some only making cameo appearances but it is a pleasure to see everyone as the heat turns up, secrets are revealed and a battle, but not the war, is won. We are left with an uneasy something-may-be-very-wrong ending which makes me need to go buy the rest of the books. But again I'll be taking a little break from reading so I can make the series last.

When my daughters were young, I wanted them to read more. I don't remember how I stumbled on the Bone series but I did, and they loved it. They devoured every bound volume, and, more importantly, continued to read other books. Jeff Smith created a wonderful series that can be read by boys or girls (or their parents).
