heading towards a show down
After all of the word building, character development and surprises, this book crescendos into a conflict between the two sides. Still, there are twists. With Invincible done, this is Kirkman's best book now.

I enjoyed the cliff hanger ending, and its dive into the beauracratic world of the dark lords that control ours

A great series continues as strong as ever.
This continues to be, for my money, Robert Kirkman’s best ongoing series. While I was a little less enthusiastic about the direction the story seemed to be steering in the last arc, Volume 6 (much to my relief) completely my confidence in Kirkman’s overall long-plan. I’m psyched to see where this goes.

Rowland moves in
Volume six in the series of paperbacks which collect issues of the horror comic 'Outcast', story of a small town in America where people are getting possessed by what appear to be demons, and the one man who seemingly has the power to do something about it.This contains issues 31-36 of the comic, and it's not a jumping on point. New readers should start with volume one.It runs all six issues together into one long narrative. This is a mature readers comic so does have strong language and violence, and isn't for younger readers at all.Sidney's replacement Rowland comes to town, and quickly makes his presence felt. Meantime Kyle and the others remain lying low and gathering stock. But confrontation is coming, and the two sides might be forced to meet quicker than they expected...This starts off a bit slow burning, but Rowland does grab as a character from the off, managing to be monstrous and charming, depending on whatever the situation requires. Things do come steadily together from around the halfway point on, and then it really does get beyond the set up and get moving at a great pace. Battle lines are most firmly drawn, and some on Kyle's side do come into more focus than you might have expected early on.It does leave one thing tantalisingly hanging at the end. You will be left impatient to see the resolution. Introduce another new plot strand as well. And one big scene is resolved by something you could call a deus ex machina, but hopefully an explanation will be coming.A volume that starts out good and then gets great. Just not quite five stars because there are a lot of scene jumps, and early on you don't get used to them, so some are a bit jarring. This doesn't have the chapter pages that Image comic trade paperbacks usually do, so it might have benefitted from those to make the narrative flow even better. And the art, whilst good and atmospheric, is a bit too static at times to really convey some of the action moments as well as it could.I really liked the tv series of this, which did feel at times stronger than the comic, but now that's seemingly gone this volume has succeeded in re kindling my enthusiasm for this version of the story. So role on book even.

Buy it, you know you want to.
Marvellous, the same as the rest of the series. No spoilers. Buy it.

Good but not great
While I enjoyed this book, it's not the best one of the pack.

Kyle is powerful.
The story and characters are still developing. The new bad threat is good. Kyle is becoming kick ass as he’s realising hidden powers. It’s just missing the creepy ominous feel of the earlier issues
