This HBA just works if you're aiming for software RAID, LVM RAID, ZFS, etc. Plug n Play, no boot delay, no reason to update or cross-flash firmware!The chipset is SAS2308 so it's PCIe 3.0 but does support PCIe 2.0! Transfers in/out of attached Sata3 HDDs are ~240MBps - 360MBps! This card can be used to transform an old workstation into a NAS, SMB, FTP, NFS or any other storage acronym server in no time! No "drivers" needed with Linux. CentOS 7 running on SSDs attached to motherboard, 4 pairs of varying TB capacity LVM RAID1 arrays attached via this card in a PCIe x16 slot. The SAS2308 Docs say this card will work in a x4 slot. To get the full x8 capacity, I used the free x16 video slot. The card is also compatible with the MEGARAID RHEL Storage Management software for viewing detailed diagnostic device data from the GUI. If you're actually seeking Hardware RAID, purchase from the MEGARAID card class. Hope all this is helpful to someone! ;)

Good card but the heatsink keeps falling off, which causes the card to overheat. Using a zip tie to hold it on.

A couple outward facing ports would be nice, but this card does what's needed reliably.

I had some addition hard-drives that needed a reliable card to add to my tower desktop.This card has allowed my home/work machine some additional storage and with some good RAID option (disaster recovery)

Works great! If this is not going into a server with tons of airflow, I strongly recommend re applying thermal paste and adding a 40mm fan to the heat sink

Installed in a freenas build, on a optiplex 390 motherboard. Was plug and play right out of the box and is running 8 drives without any issues.

The attached bracket was low profile, but it was advertised as coming with a full height bracket as well. In most cases those are interchangeable by simply removing the screws and attaching the other bracket. In this case the full height bracket wasn't threaded to accept the mounting screws that the board is shipped with. So we were unable to install the board in the computer case. Something as simple as a bad bracket made this board a big fail for us.

The product I received was a used card. Traces were peeled off, power socket was severely bent.Card was wrapped in a plastic cover too strong and rough that messed up the sockets.
